To. all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that we, HUBERT A. IsdHE and AUGUST LEONARD Isonn, citizens of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oatamenial Appliances, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to improvements in hygienic menstrual receivers.

The object of the invention is to provide a form of device which may be worn without inconvenience and which will efiectively retain the menstrual discharges until removed from the person of the wearer, the device also serving as a support when in use.

A further object of the invention is to provide a form of device which can be easily cleansed and repeatedly used, regard being had for durability and convenience of application.

In the following description reference is bad to the accompanying drawings,,in which Figure 1 is a front view showing the invention applied. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the inventionwith the bands extended. Fig. 3 is a sectional view drawn on line 03 w of Fig. 2. Fig. i is a detail showing -one of the holding devices for the absorbent material.

Like parts are identified by the same reference characters throughout the several views.

1 is a supporting waist band or belt formed of elastic sections a and inelastic sections b, with suitable fastenings at 0, whereby it may be secured about-the waist of the user.

The body of the receiver is formed with front and rear walls 2 and 3, respectively, with the lower edges united along an angular line extending downwardly from a central apex d, forming wings a. The rear wall 3 of the body is detachably connected with the waistband l by an elastic strip 5 and inelastic strips 6 and 7, the latter being secured .to the wall 3 by suitable fasteningsS. The front wall 2 of the body is secured to the Waistband by a wide strip 9, which covers and supports the abdomen. A strip 11, of absorbent material, such as sponge, is adjusted to the inner surface of the body at the angle (1 and upon the front and rear walls 2 and 3 and secured to such walls by flexible bands 14, which connect the front and rear walls of the wings. The upper portion of the body is held snugly to the person of the wearer by elastic strips 15, which pass upwardly over the hips, as shown. These bands are kept from slipping down by stays 16, connecting their central portions with the belt 1. Other stays 17, preferably elastic, connect the front wall'2 with the strip 9 at the sides, the connected edges of said strip and wall being preferably notched, as shown at 8.

It will be observed,'Fig. 4, that the inner surfaces of the walls 2 and 3 are provided with a lining 18, of rubber. The absorbent material 11 is readily removed by pulling it out from under the holding-strips l2, and it will therefore be evident that the entire device may be easily cleansed, the material 11 being replaced or fresh material substituted as often as-desired.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a device of the described class, the combination with a waistband; of a body formed with front and rear waterproof walls, connected at their lower edges, along an angular line extending downwardly and outwardl y from a central apex, whereby the lower portion of the body forms wings e; elastic legstraps extending in the form of downwardlydivergent loops from the wing portions 6 below the apex; and yielding connections between the body and waistband.

2. In a device of the described class, the combination with a waistband," of a body formed with front and rear waterproof walls and divergent wings in the lower portions, of yielding, flexible connections secured to the rear portion of the waistband and detachably.

and below the widest portion of the hips respectively, the lower loops being connected with said wings and adapted to bind them forcibly in position.

3. In a device of the described class, the combination with a waistband; of a body formed with front and rear walls, and divergent wings e in the lower portions adapted to lap partially around the legs of the user, of elastic, divergent securing-loops for binding the body and wings to the person of the wearer, above and below the widest'portion of the hips; permanent front connections and detachable rear connections between the body and the waistband; transverse holding-strips arranged to cross the angle formed by the Wings 9 having their ends secured to the respective wings; and a strip of absorbent material loosely adjusted under the strips.
