like, the object being to provide a hinge so.
constructed that the two leaves may be easily separated when it is desired to remove the door, leaving one leaf on the door and the other on the casing, which will have a better appearance than has a casing whenthe hinge members are removed from the casing, leaving the screw-holes exposed.
I will describe a hinge embodying my invention, and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation, partly in section, of a hinge embodying myinvention and Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
The hinge comprises two leaf members 5 6, one being secured to the door-casing and the other to the door, as clearly indicated. The leaf 5 has at its ends perforated lugs 7, and
the leaf 6 has perforated lugs 8, which engage between the lugs-7. Secured to the lugs 8 is a tubular pintle 9, and through this tubular pintle a pintle-pin 10 passes, this pintle-pin 10 also passing through the openings in the lugs 7. A springll surrounds the tubular pintle and has its opposite ends con nected to the lugs 8, while its central portion is provided with a loop 12, which is removably engaged with a lug 13 on the leaf 5.
When it is desired to remove the door, it is only necessary to remove the pintle-pin 10 and release the loop 12 from the hook 13. For hanging the door the loop 12 is to be engaged with the lug 13, and then the pin 10 is to be inserted. 7
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent---- 7 A hinge, comprising leaf membershav-ing perforated lugs, the lugs of one leaf member being received between the lugs of the other, a tube attached to and connecting the inter mediate lugs carried by one of the leaf members, a round pin' passing through the perforations in the lugs of the other member and also through the tube connecting the intermediate lugs, a spring coiled around the tube and having its ends secured to the intermediate lugs, said spring having a loop portion at its center, and an outwardlyprojecting hook on the outer face of the leaf member carrying the outer lugs, said hook being located about the longitudinal center of said leaf member, and engaged by said loop, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS E. MCGREADY.
