PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT M. DIXON, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY, ASSI'QNOR TO SAFETY CAR HEATING & LIGHTING COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
LAfM P.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 745,583, dated December 1, 1903- I Application filed February 21, 1903. Serial No. 144,425. (No model.)
My invention relates to lamps, and has for its particular object to produceau improved lamp of the cluster type, although the improvements are applicable to other forms of lamps.
In the accompanying drawing I have shown a deck-lamp embodying my invention, which lamp is shown byway of illustration in order to clearly disclose the invention. 7
In the drawing, a indicates the body-casting, fromwhich a suitable gasway-tube b is suspended, which gasway-tube is preferably surrounded by a suitable spacing-piece c and an asbestos sleeve d.
The body-castin g a isprovided with a downwardly-extending sleeve or casing e, circumferentially apertured at ff for the passage of air. The gasway-tube supports a suitable reflector-flange g, which reflector-flange supports an internal cylinder h, surrounded by a reflector i, which extends upward from the reflector-flange to a point just below the apertures f. A reflector-plate j is supported below the reflector-flange and above the cluster is, supported from the gasway.
A series of lines Z are arranged within the cylinder h and extend upward through .the lamp, one flue being located above each of the burners of the cluster and being adapted to carry oft the products of combustion.
support it, from which extend arms 1, sup
porting the top member w of a bezel or support ring, whose lower member a: is hinged to the upper member at y and provided with a suitable catch 2.
A demo 1 and a globe 2 are supported by these rings or members. The lower ring is a bezel-ring and is provided with a globe-supporting ring 3, attached thereto by screws or otherwise, the inwardly-extending lip i of the globe being supported by the globe-supporting ring, there being preferably an as bestos or other non-condueting packing 5 interposed between the lip of the globe and the globe-supporting ring. When the lamp is in the form of a deck-lamp, as herein shown, a suitable ventilator 6 is provided outside of the car and a frusto-conical thimble 7 extends between the decks A and B of the car-roof and delivers into the roof-thimble 8.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. In a lamp the combination of a main from, a cluster-burner suspended from the gasway, a plurality of elongated draft-tubes or chimneys 1 supported by the main frame and located above the lights of the cluster and frame orsupport, a gasway suspended therea translucent inclosure for the burner and V the lower ends of the draft-tubes the space within the translucent inclosure around the burner and the lower ends of the draft-tubes being entirely unobstructed.
2. In a lamp the combination of a clusterburner, a series of separate independent elongated draft-tubes, a casing surrounding the said draft-tubes, the said casing being apertured for the admission of air and a translucent inclosure for the burner and the lower ends of the draft-tubes the space within the translucent inelosure around the burner and the lower ends of the draft-tubes being entirely unobstructed.
3. In a lamp the combination of'a series of independent elongated draft-tubes or chimneys, a tubular reflector 1' extending below and outside of the said chimneys, a cluster of burners located below the said chimneys and delivering their products o combustion into the said chimneys.
4. In a lamp the combination of a clusterburner, a series of independent draft-tubes or chimneys, a defiector plate 0 located above inclosure around the burner and the lower' ends of the draft-tubes being entirely unobstructed.
5. In a lamp the combination of a plurality of chimneys, a perforated casing surrounding the same, a reflector also surrounding the said chimneys, a burner and a globe and dome surrounding the said burner, reflector and the lower ends of the said chimneys, the space within the said globe and dome being entirely unobstructed around the said refiector.
6. In a lamp the combination of a plurality of draft-tubes or chimneys, a tubular reflector extending below and outside of the lower ends of the said chimneys, a burner located below the chimneys and reflector, and
