SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 745,158, dated November 24:, 1903.

Be it known that 1, JAMES L. CRANE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Fronts or Show- Cases; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled m in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in store-fronts or show-cases, and pertains more especially to their corner construction.

The object of this invention is to provide a meritorious construction and arrangement of parts in fastening together two vertically-arranged glass plates which are arranged at an angle to each other at their adjacent vertical 2o edges without necessitating more than the notching or recessing of only one of the said edges and without interfering with the abut ting of the said edges against each other.

With this object in view my said invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an exterior view of a show-front or show-case embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on either one of lines 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on either one of lines 3 3, Fig. 1. Figs. 2 and 3 show the parts full size. Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line 3 5 4 4, Fig. 2, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 5 is a view in perspective of one of the corner-fasteners detached.

Referring to the drawings, A and B designate two vertically-arranged or upright glass plates of a store-front or show-case, which are arranged at an angle to each other. The said plates A and B at their adjacent vertical or upright edges are correspondingly beveled and tightly fitted together, so that the said 4 5 edges abut against each other and form a tight joint, preventing the ingress of dustand dirt from without to and between the said edges.

.A and B, respectively. The inner cornerpiece D of each corner-fastener is arranged within the angle formed by the plates A and B and has two arms or wings d and d arranged to engage or bear against the inner side of the different plates A and B, respec-' tively.

In the construction illustrated the connec- I tion between the corner-pieces D and D of each corner-fastener comprises a stud-bolt E, which is screwed at its inner end into a correspondingly screw-threaded hole F, with which the outer corner-piece D of the said fastener is provided at its inner side and between the arms or wings d and d of the said corner-piece. The bolt E of each corner-fas- .tener extends inwardly from the outer corner-piece D of the said fastener to and loosely through a hole K, formed in and extending through the inner corner-piece D of the said fastener. The said bolt, in order to necessitate only the recessing or notching of one of the adjacent upright edges of the plates A, and B in accommodating the location of the said bolt, is notched or recessed, as at e, at its side which facesthe unrecessed of the said edges. It will be observed, therefore,

that one of the plates A and B and plate B 0 Q of the show-front or show-case illustrated is recessed or notched, as at b, transversely of its edge atthe corners formed by the said plates to accommodate the location of the aforesaid bolt, which extends through the 5 notch or recess 1), and that the said bolt is cut away or recessed, as hereinbefore described, to avoid the necessity of recessin'g or notching the plate A. Hence by my invention one of the plates hereinbefore described as being placed in position at an angle to each other need not be notched or recessed at the adjacent upright edges of the said plates to accommodate the location of the bolt or connection between the corner-pieces of a cor ner-fastener employed in holding the said plates in position.

A corner-fastener D is shown detached in Fig. 5.

The means employed for efiecting the required connection between the bolt E and the inner corner-piece D of each corner-fastener comprises a nut G, mounted on the free end of the bolt and cooperating when tightened relative to the said corner-piece with the bolt in holding or retaining both cornerpieces of the said fastener in their operative position, wherein they bear against or engage the plates A and B.

I would have it understood that my invention is not limited to the hereinbefore-described details of construction employed in 7 formed in one of the said plates only.

What I claim is- 1. In a corner construction for show-windows, show-cases, &c., the combination of two plates arranged at an angle to each other, one of said plates having a notch therein; an angle-iron arranged around the outer corner of said plates; a bolt extending from said angle-iron through the notch in said plate, the bodyof said bolt being arranged entirely within the notch in one of said plates; an inner angle-iron and means for connecting said bolt therewith.

2. In a corner construction for show-windows, show-cases, &c., the combination of two plates arranged at an angle to each other, one of said plates being notched at the corner; a corner-iron arranged around the outside of the plates; a bolt extending from said angle-iron through said notch, said bolt being notched at one side; an angle-iron arranged within the angle; and means for connecting the bolt therewith.

3. The combination, with two upright glass plates placed in position at an angle to each other, with one of the adjacent upright edges of the said plates provided with a notch or recess, of a corner-fastener comprising an outer corner-piece arranged around the outer corner of the said plates, an inner cornerpiece arranged within the aforesaid angle adjacent the inner corner formed by the said plates, and a connection between the said corner-pieces extending between the aforesaid corners, which connection comprises a bolt extending inwardly from the outer corner-piece to and extending loosely through the inner corner-piece, which bolt, where it extends between the aforesaid corners, is arranged, at 'one side, entirely within the aforesaid notch or recess in one of the aforesaid plates, and cut away at its opposite side to avoid recessing or notching of the other of the said plates, and a nut mounted on the bolt.

4. The combination, with two upright glass plates placed in position at an angle to each other, with one of the adjacent upright edges of the said plates provided with a notch or recess, of a corner-fastener comprising an outer corner-piece arranged around the outer corner of the said plates, an inner corner-piece arranged within the aforesaid angle adjacent the inner corner formed by the said plates, and a connection between the said cornerpieces extending between the aforesaid corners, which connection comprises a bolt projecting inwardly from the outer corner-piece to and extending loosely through the inner corner-piece, which bolt, where it extends between the aforesaid corners, is arranged entirely within the aforesaid notch or recess, and means for securing the corner-pieces in their operative position.

5. The combination, with two upright glass plates placed in position at an angle to each other, with one of the adjacent upright edges of the said plates provided with a notch or recess, of a corner-fastener comprising an outer corner-piece arranged around the outer corner of the said plates, an inner corner-piece arranged within the aforesaid angle adjacent the inner corner formed by the said plates, and a connection between the said cornerpieces extending between the aforesaid corners from the outer corner-piece inwardly to and through the inner corner-piece, and, where it extends between the corners, being arranged entirely within the aforesaid notch or recess.

6. The combination, with two upright glass plates placed in position at an angle to each other,with their adjacent upright edges abutting against each other and with one of the said edges provided with a transverse notch or recess, of a corner-fastener comprising an outer corner-piece arranged to bear against the outer sides of the aforesaid plates adjacent the outer corner of the said plates, an inner corner-piece arranged to bear against the inner sides of the said plates adjacent the inner corner formed by the said plates, and a connection between the said cornerpieces extending between the aforesaid corners, and, where it extends between the corners, being arranged entirely within the aforesaid notch or recess.

7. The combination, with two upright glass plates placed in position at an angle to each other, with one of the adjacent upright edges of the said plates provided with a notch or recess, of a corner-fastener comprising an outer corner-piece arranged around the outer corner of the aforesaid plates, an inner corner-piece arranged at the inner sides of the said plates adjacent the inner corner formed by the said plates, and a connection between the said corner-pieces extending between the aforesaid corners and, where it extends between the said corners, being arranged entirely within the aforesaid notch or recess.

8. The combination, with two upright glass plates placed in positionat an angle to each other with one of the adjacent upright edges of the said plates provided with a notch or recess, of a corner device arranged at the outer corner of the aforesaid plates, an inner corner device arranged at the inner sides of said plates adjacent the inner corner formed by the said plates, and a connection between the said corner devices extending between the aforesaid plates, which connection where it extends between said plates being arranged within the aforesaid notch or recess in the notched or recessed plate and entirely exteriorly of the other plate.

9. The combination with two glass plates arranged. at an angle to each other, one of the plates having a notch or recess in its edge which is adjacent to the other plate, and a corner-fastener comprising an outer corner device, an inner corner device and a connection between said'corner devices, which connection extends through the notch or recess in the notched or recessed plate and arranged entirely exteriorly of the other plate.
