To all whom it' may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH WALTER KA- VETZKI, of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Breast-Straps, whereof the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to double-team harness, and particularly to the means for connecting a wagon-pole with the collars of the team. Various forms of devices have been employed for the purpose specified; but so far as I am aware it is characteristic of all of them that their several members are inseparably connected, so that if one member is broken it is necessary to practically remake the device to repair it.

Itis the object of my invention to provide a device of the character described comprising a central strap provided at its opposite ends with chains and snap-hooks detachably connected therewith, so that if any one of said members is broken it may be readily replaced by an unskilled operator, and in order to secure the most efficient use of my improved devices I find it desirable to provide each of them with a wearing-plate for engagement with the ring of the pole-chain and to make them right and left handed in the respect that the length of the strap extending from said wearing-plate to its point of attachment to the collar on the side adjoining the pole is less than the length of said strap eX- tending from said wearing-plate to its point of attachment to the collar on the side distant from the pole. It is also characteristic of my device that means are provided to retain said wearing-plate in its eccentric position with respect to the length of the strap.

My invention comprehends the various novel features of construction and arrangement hereinafter more denitely specified and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure I is a front edge view of a strap for the right-hand member of the team. Fig. II is a face View of the portion of the strap shown at the right-hand side of Fig. I. Fig. III is an outside face viewof the portion of the strap shown at the lefthand side of Fig. I. Fig. IV is a sectional view taken on the line IV IV in Fig. I.

, In said figures the central body portion of the device is preferably made of a three-ply leather strap 1, provided at its opposite ends With metal eye-clips 2 3, whose fiat plateshanks 4. 5 are respectively secured to said strap 1 by rivets 6 7. Intermediate of said clips 2 3 said strap lis provided with the wearingplate 8, which is retained in the eccentric position shown in Fig. I by engagement beneath the shank 4 of the clip 2adjoining its rivet 6. Said clip 2 is provided with two open chainlinks 10 11, the former being directly engaged with the eye of said clip 2 and the latter being engaged with said link 10 and with the aperture 13 in the shank 14. of the snap-hook 15. Similarly the clip 3 is provided with two open links 16 17, the former being directly engaged with the eye of said clip 3 and the latter being engaged with said link 16 and with the aperture 19 in the shank 2O of the snap-hook 2l. It is to be noted that said snap-hooks 15 21 are connected with their respective eye-clips 2 3 by chains, each consisting of an even number of links, so that said hooks are maintained pointing outwardly, which is desirable to facilitate their manual engagement and disengagement with respect to the fastening-rings 22 23, carried by the collar.

It is to be understood that I do not desire to limit myself to the precise construction hereinbefore described, as it is obvious that various modifications may be made therein without departing from the essential features of my invention.

I claim- 1. In a breast-strap, the combination with a central body of leather; of metal eye-clips fitted to the opposite ends of said body and comprising shanks embracing the-opposite sides of said body; rivets entered through said shanks and said body, securing said clips in stationary relation thereto; a Wearingplate embracing said body and disposed in eccentric relation toits length; the shank of one of said clips overhanging said Wearingplate and securing the latter in stationary relation to said body; chains, each consisting of an even number of open links, detachably connected with said eye-clips; and, snaphooks respectively detachably connected with the free ends of said chains, substantially as set forth.

2. In a breast-strap, the combination with a central body of leather provided with terminal eye-clips; of chains each consisting of an even number of links respectively detachably connected with said clips; snap-hooks respectively detachably connected with the free ends of said chains; a metal Wearing-plate embracing said leather body, in eccentric relation thereto; and, means, connected with one of said eyepieces, engaging said wearingplate and securing the same in stationary relation to said body, substantially as set forth.

3. In a breast-strap, the combination with a central body of leather, provided with a wearing-plate intermediate' of its ends; of eye-clips fitted to the'ends of said body; rivets entered through said clips and said body; one of said clips engaging said wearing-plate; and, chains respectively detachably connected with said clips, and each comprising two open links and a snap-hook, detachably connected with each other, substantially as set forth.

4. In a breast-strap, the combination with a leather body; of a wearing-plate mounted on said body intermediate of its ends; eyeclips attached to the ends of said body; one of said clips being engaged with said Wearingplate; and snap-hooks provided with means detachably connecting them with the respective eye-clips, substantially as set forth.
