PNEUMATIC TOY.
N0 MODEL.
wifzesses UNITED STATES Patented November 17, 1903;
. PATENT OFFI CEORCESCHNEIDER, OE BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, AssICNOR To THE GEORGE SCHNEIDER MANUFACTURING COMPANY OF BALTIMORE CITY, A CORPORATION OF MARYLAND.
PNEUMATIC TOY.
SIEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 744,630, dated November-1'7, 1903 Application filed February 2 8, 1903. $erial No. 145,489. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern: I Be it known that LGEORGE SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Toys, of which the following is a specification. 7
My invention relates to improvements in pneumatic toys, and has for its object to provide a device which shall afford amusement.
The invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, in which Figure 1 illustrates a side elevation of the device; Fig. 2, an elevation of same. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through aportion of the device. Fig. 4 illustrates a plan view of a blank from which the tube portion of the device is formed. Fig. 5 illustrates the construction of the tubes as formed from a single blank. Fig. 6 illustrates a modified form of the device. elevation and plan view, respectively; of a modified form of receptacle.
Referring to the drawings by letters, a dos-- ignates a tube having at one end a rightangle extension a, both of which are formed from a single blank 0. The tubes are connected by a neck I) for convenience in manufacture and holding the same together during the operation of soldering the adjoining edges together to form an air-tight elbow b. The tube a at its upper end is closed by a U-shaped plate (1, and said plate is provided with a hole (1. The vertical walls d of this, U-shaped plate are notched and form prongs (1 adapted to support a sphere e of suitable light material over the hole 01. 1 A tubular.
supportf has one end f entered in the tube a and in communication with theinterior of the latter, and the upper end f of said support projects above the U-shaped plate d and at its upper end supports a receptacle 9. This elevated receptacle may comprise one or more cup-shaped devices, any one of which may receive the sphere e, and in Figs.
Figs. 7 and 8 illustrate a side l, 2, and 3 the bottom of the receptacle is provided with a hole g, which opens into the tubular support f. The lower end of the support may be secured to the tube a by solder h.
In Fig. 6 the support 2' comprises a stifi wire and is merely soldered to the tube a, and in this instance the support does not enter the tube a, as illustrated in the preferred form. p
The operation is as follows: The sphere e is placed on the prongs d of the U-shaped plate, and the end of the tube a is placed in the mouth of the operator. The first object is to elevate a receptacle, as illustrated by broken lines in Fig. 3. After this has been accomplished the second object is to dislodge the sphere from the receptacle by again blowing through the tube a and deposit the sphere in its original place on the prongs d In case the modified form is employed and the receptacle having a plurality of cup-receptacles is used each of the receptacles may i be given a different number'and the number of the receptacle receiving the sphere credited to the operator.
Having thus fully describedmy invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A pneumatic toy comprising a horizontal and a vertical tube at an angle with respect to each other and each having a passage-way'in communication with the other; a
U-shaped plate closing the upper end of said vertical tube, the vertical walls of said plate having notches to form a plurality of supporting-prongs and the bottom of said plate having a central opening; a sphere; a vertitically-projecting support secured at one end to said vertical tube and projectingin a parallel direction with said vertical tube but in a difierent vertical plane from said tube, and a concave receptacle at the upper end of said support, said concave receptacle having a position in a horizontal plane above said U- shaped plate and in a vertical plane beyond said U-shaped plate and adapted to receive and partly inclose said sphere.
2. A pneumatic toy comprising a horizontal tube and a vertical tube and having passage-ways in communication with each obher; asphere; atubularsupporbsecuredto saidvertical tube and havingapassagewhich isin communication with the passage-way of said vertical tube, and a cup-receptacle sustained by said tubular support and having an opening in its bottom which is in communication with the passage of said tubular support. to
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
