MORRIS BENJAMIN, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
LOCK OR CONNECTION FOR BED-RAILS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentlNo. 733,127, dated July '7,
Application tiled septemlier 12, 1901. Serial No. 75,195. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, MORRIS BENJAMIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta,
in the county of Fultonand State of Georgia,.
I attain these objects by the method of corn struction shown in the accompanying drawings, in whichj Figure 1 is a vertical section of the lock or I connection. Fig. 2 is a vertical section showing the rail inserted in one portion of the lock or connection. Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the means for locking and unlocking the connection, and Fig. 4 shows two views of the wedge or key by which the rigid joint is made.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in all the views.
The bed-post, of which A is a portion, has attached to it a surrounding block B, in which is a slot G. The object of this slot G is to receive the head of the bolt E, which is cast or otherwise fastened in the block 0. The block 0 is cast or otherwise fastened to the rail D. By means of the wedge F, which is so constructed that it is at all times connected to the bolt E, it will be seen that the necessary rigidity will be preserved at all times between the several parts. In the entering end of the wedge F is the slot F, by means of which the wedge can be sprung over the shank of the bolt E, and thereby secured against accidental loss.
I am aware that 'prior to my invention looks or connections for bed-rails have been made with fixed taper-joints, forming an integralpart of the rail or post, by which con struction no means are provided to secure rigidity in case of wear in the several parts and no method by which the rail can be reversed, turnedover, or secured on opposite sides of the bed-frame universally. I therefore do not claim such'a combination broadly;
but
What I do claim as my invention, and dc sire to secure by Letters Patent, is--' 1. In a bed-fastening, a post, a block on said post and provided with a slot, a rail adjustable about its longitudinal axis, a bolt projecting from an end of said rail and pro= vided with a head adapted to register with said slot so as to prevent the rotation of the rail about its longitudinal axis when said bolt is in engagement with said'slot, and a wedge inserted in said slot between said block and the head of said bolt to draw the engaging parts of the fastening together.
2. In a bed-fastening, a post, a block secured on said post and provided with a slot a bolt projecting from an end of said rail an d provided with a head adapted to en gage with the slot in said block, and a wedge carried on the shank of said bolt and adapted to be inserted in said slot and interposed between said block and the head of said bolt to draw the several parts of the fastening together.
3. In a bed-fastening, a post, a block on said post and provided with a slot, a rail adjustable about its longitudinal axis, abolt projecting from an end of said rail and pro vided with a head adapted to register with said slot so as to prevent the rotation of the rail about its longitudinal axis when said bolt is in engagement with said slot, and a wedge carried on the shank of said bolt and inserted in said slot between said block and the head of said bolt to draw the engaging parts of the fastening together.
MORRIS BENJAMIN.
