@einen faire g-altrui @fitta JAMES URIE, OF EVANSVILLE, INDIANA'.
Letters .Patent No. 73,209, dated January 7, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOUGHS.
@In gitana :nimh it iu ligne Etnias tmt ma mating gaat nt tige .sz-imc.
'TO ALL WI-IOM IT MAY CONQERN:
Be it known that I, JAMES URIE, of Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg, and State of Indiana, have invented a new aud useful Improvement in Plough; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, cleara and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specieatiomin which l Figure 1 is a side view of my improved plough.
Figure 2 is a bottom view of the same.
Figure 3 is a rear view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish 'an improved plough, simple in construction, effective in operation, which can be manufactured at small expense, and any part of which can be easily renewed, when worn, without its being necessary to send the entire plough to the manufaotory to have the renewed part fitted; and it consists in the combination of the standard, point, or share, and mould-board with each other, when said parts are formed and attached substantially in the form and manner hereinafter more fully shown and described.
C is the standard or frame, to which the point or share, mouid-board, beam, and handle are secured by bolts. The horizontal part clef the frame C is formed with aflange upon each side of the rear part of its base, as shown iii-figs. 1, 2, and 3, and with a flange, c2, upon the oft" side of its upright part, which forms a seat for the point and mould-board, and to which the said parts are secured by bolts and nuts, as s'hown in figs. 2 and 3, and in dotted lines in iig. 1. The point or share A is formed in substantially the shape shown in figs. 1, 2, and 8, that is to say, it extends farther upward than the said part does upon ordinary ploughs, and has a downwardly-projecting flange upon its inward or near side, which ts intoia recess formed in the frame C for its reception, extends down so that its lower edge forms a part of the base ofthe plough, and which forms a portion of the land-side'of the plough. Thepoiht or share A is secured .to the standard C by a single bolt and nut, and may be removed at will whenever it becomes worn or broken, and replaced with a new one. The mould-board B is secured to the flange c2 of the standard C by tw'o bolts and nuts, and its off or rear side is supported by being bolted to the handle, as indicated by the bolt-holes in the said rear part. l
This construction enables the mould-board B to be rem'oved when worn, or when it is desired to replace it with 'a mould-board of another shape for a different kind of ploughing. The different parts of the plough are all so constructed that any oncof them may be replaced with a new one when desired, whiehnew part will exactly fit the other parts, so that it will not benecessary to send the plough, or any part of it, to the manufactory to have the said part or parts tt'ed.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The standard C, constructed as described, having the flange el extending its entire length upon one side, and the horizontal part or land-side forming two flanges upon itsv rear end, gradually decreasing in width toward the forward part, all cast in one piece, as herein described for the purpose specified. r
2. The point A, when. cast in one piece, as set forth, in combination with the standard C, constructed as described, having the flange cl extending its entire length upon one side,'and the horizontal part or land-side forming the flanges upon its rear end gradually decreasing in width toward the forward part, all cast in one piecekas herein shown and described.
' JAMES URIE.
