Description

No. 731,457. PATENTED JUNE 23, 1903. J. L. HORTON & D. A. BENNETT. PLOW BAR AND REGULATING LEVER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 13, 1902.
'no MODEL.
UNITED STATns Patented June 23, 1903.
PLOW BAR AND RE GULATlNG-LEVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 731,457, dated June 23, 1903. Application filed May 13, 1902. Serial lilo-107,213. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that W0,JAMES L. HORTON and DOSIER A. BENNETT, citizens of the United States, residing at Cego, in the county of Falls and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Bars and Levers, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to that class of plows used in breaking and cultivating land; and it has for its object to provide a simple and improveddevice for regulating depth of plow.
A further object of our invention is to provide a plow bar and lever which will possess advantages in point of durability, ease of operation, and general efficiency.
To this end our invention consists substan tially in the combination and arrangement of parts,-as will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow-beam embodying our invention and illustrating'all of its parts together- Fig. 2 illustrates the bar detached from the plow with handles attached. Fig. 3 is another view illustrating the bar and lever detached from the plow.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a plow-beam, to which is applied our improved bar and lever B. The latter comprises two perpendicular bars D 0, extending forward at connecting-point with bar I. The bar I consists of two bars, the lever D being fastened between the forward ends by the means of bolts. To render the lever D secure, a
ratchet O is used, being fastened to top of beam A. At top of lever D is provided a latchet J, to which is fastened a rod E, passing down the lever D, through bracket K and coil-spring F, through the top end of bar 0 into one of the slots L on ratchet C. T0 attach the handles M, the bars H are fastened on either side of the beam A and at the connecting-point of the lever D and the bars I. To these bars H the handles M are fastened by means of bolts.
The operation and advantage of our invention will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which it appertains. To operate the lever D, the latchet J is pressed forward, drawing the rod E upward, disengaging it from ratchet L, moving the lever D back or forward to regulate the depth of plow.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a plow, the combination with a bent beam, having a rack on its upper side, and the handle-bars and share thereof, of a standard comprising two bars of unequal length, carrying said share, pivotally attached to said handle-bars, and extending upward, one bar on 'each side of saidbeam, a right-angle extension upon the end of one of said standard-bars above said beam, a bracket upon the other standard above said extension, a locking-bar passing through said bracket and said extension and engaging the rack on said beam, a spring normally holding said locking-bar in engagement with said notches, means for withdrawing said locking-bar from such engagement, and means for supporting the rear end of said beam.
In testimony whereof'we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
