PATENT OFFICE.
GASOLEN E-TORCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of lLetters Patent No. 739,221, dated September 15,1903.
Application filed J'nne Il, 19`02. -Serial No.v111,l93.' (No model.)
.To all uib/m t Magnan/cern:
Be it known that I, FRED REINLEIN, acitizen of the United States, residing at Mount Vernon, in the county of Jefferson and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Im-` provements in Gasolene-Torches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to gasolene-,torches designed for use in exterminatinginsects and vermin found upon plants and trees.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a simple and eective'device of the character named which will be adapted either to be worn upon the back of the user or to be suspended from the branch of atree, as circumstances may require.
The construction of the apparatus will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and its novel features will be defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is aview in` perspective of an apparatus embodying the in-l vention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of au airpump employed for `feeding the gasolene or other illuminant to thel burner.
The reference-numeral l designates a tank or receptacle adapted to contain gasolene or other burning fluid and provided on one side with loops or eyes 2, to which are adapted tof be attached snap-hooks e', secured t0 the ends v of straps 3, by means of which the tank may lbe suspended from the shoulders of the user.V
The top of the tank l is provided with a suitable opening, through which extends an airpump a, provided with a piston ot', formed at its upper end ywith a hook b, from which projects a spur or spurs e. A dischargeopening gis provided near the bottom of the tank 1, and secured to said opening g is one end of a tube g', the opposite end of whichv communicates with one end of a rigid pipe h,
the receptacle is supported upon the back of the user by means of the straps 3, andthe burner by reason of the Iiexible pipe connection g may be readily manipulated to direct the llame to the desired point. The spurs or prongs .c serve as convenient supports upon which the burner may be hung when not in use.
When the device-is used upon the branch of a tree, the hook b, projecting from the pisf ton, serves as a convenient suspending de- 6o vice to engage the limb of a tree. When not required for use,l the straps 3 may be readily Y detached from the tank. Asuitable fillingopening is provided at the top of the tank adapted to, be closed by a screw-stopper e.
It will be obvious that the hook b serves the double purpose of a handle for the piston and a` suspending device for the tank and that by removing the pin d the piston may be reciprocated to supply oil to the burner". 7o
Having thus fully described the invention,
.what I claim as new is- 1. A gasolene-torch comprising a tank, an air-pump, a piston-for said pump formed at its upper end with a hook for suspending the tank, means for holding the piston against movement,a burner, and connections between said tank and burner for supplying oil to the latter.
. 2. The combination with the tank of a gaso- 8o Iene-torch, of a burner, a connection between said tank and burner comprising a iieXible pipe and a rigid pipe, an air-pump, a pistonv therefor formed at its upper end with a hook Vhavingaspurprojectingtherefrom, and means `for holding the piston against movement.
3. The combination with a tank of a gasolene-torch, of straps for suspending the same 'from the shoulders of the user, a burner provided with an initial heating-cup, a connec- 9o tion between said burner and tank comprising a flexible pipe anda rigid pipe, an airpipe communicating with said tank, a piston for said pump having its upper end bent to form a hook adapted to engage a suitable i lene-torch, Vof a burner, a connection between roo said tank and burner, an air-pump extendton, and a removable pin for 4looking the ing within the tank and formed with registering openings within its upper end, e piston extending Within the pump and formed with an opening adapted to register with those of the pump, and having its upper end provided with a suspending-hook which also serves as a handle for reciprocating the pispiston. 1o
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
FRED REINLEIN.
