ROPE-SLAM P.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent N 0. 738,562, dated September 8, 1903.
Application filedebruary 11, 1902. Serial No. 93,592. (No model.)
To all wiz/0m, tim/tty concern.-
Beit known that I, CHARLES H. MOHLAND,
` a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Burlington, in the county of Des Moines and State of Iowa, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Wire-Rope Clamps;
and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a side elevation of my invention as applied. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a plan View of one of the sections A.
This invention has relation to clamps for the ends of wire ropes, and has for its object the provision of a simple and efficient clamp of this naturewhich will bite or grip both sides 4oir' each section of the rope passing therethrough, the line of compression being retained in the plane ofthe doubled rope.
` With thisobject in view the invention consists in the novel construction and ,combination of parts, as lhereinafter described, and` tion being located between the doubled portions of the rope and biting or gripping adjacent or inner sides of such portions and the outer clamp-sections gripping the outer sides of such portions. The faces of the clampjaws are grooved to receive the rope, and the walls of such grooves have oblique corrugations d, having the same inclination as that of the strands of the rope. The sections or jaws are ofiiat character, and the intermediate jaw has bolt-perforations therethrough which are of larger diameter than that of the bolts, so as to allow suchv jaw to tip to one side or the other, as may be required incase of inequalities in the rope or in the adjustment of the connecting-bolts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a rope-clamp, the twoouter sections or jaws, and the intermediate automaticallyadjustable section, each section having boltperforations, and connecting-bolts engaging said perforations, substantially as specified.
2. In a rope-clamp, the two outer sections or jaws, and the intermediate automaticallyadjustable section or jaw, each jaw having bolt-perforations, and the connecting-bolts, the perforations of said intermediate jaw being of larger diameter than that of the bolts, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
C. H. MOHLAND.
