1 PATENTBD AUG. 1l, 1903 T. D. SUGRUE-- y ends by an eye or `bearing b at the lower end f Patented August 11, 190s.
TIMOTHY D. SUGRUE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO DANIEL B. SUGRUE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
CLOTHING-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 736,171, dated August 11, 1903.
Application filed November 5, 1902.V Serial No. 130,155. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t matr/concern,.-
` i, Be it known that I, TIMOTHY D. SU GRUE, a
subj ect of the King of Great Britain, residing at Boston, county'of Suffolk, State of Massa-` y chusetts, have invented an Improvement in Clothing-Hangers, of which the following dej scription, in connection with the accompanyi `ing drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts. Io l This invention has for its object the pro-` "Figure l represents, in side elevation, a
`hanger embodying my invention in one of the best forms now known to me.
Fig. 2 is an l end View thereof with the coiled spring removed. t
In the production of my novel hanger I "take, preferably, a piece of wire A and bend it downwardlyat ot and outwardly, and the exy tremities otof the wire may be bent to form i "part of ajoint. y These extremities are conany desired point. v usual or suitable shape and will preferably nected by a brace b, preferablycomposed of wire. Thislbrace is sustained between its of a stay b2, connected with the central portion ax of the wire A.
As herein shown, the upper end of the stay is, represented as provided with a suitable hook by which to suspend the hanger from This hook may be of any be swiveled.
The stay has, as shown, connected with it y by rivets d two spring-arms d', and the ext tremities of said arms are bent to form eyes to embrace portions of clamping-jaws e e' bei tween their curled ends e2, that surround the 4 brace between the extremities of the wire A. Toforce the `jaws of the clamping device referred to firmly upon 4and to hold trousers, I
have illustrated herein a ring or slide f, that p i `ismovable freelylongitudinally of the arms and the stay.` The `brace also has pivotally i -connectedwith it theopposite ends ofabreast` support j' shown as a wire that may be turned i y into any position with relation to the brace, i so as tooccupya position inside the coat or vest and retain the front portion thereof held 5o loutwardly to take out any creases that might result from the undue sagging of the front of the coat when wearing the same.
The wire A is surrounded by two conicallyshapedwire springs g g. The wire forming these springs is represented as connected at the central portion of the wire A by wrapping the same about the stay, and the opposite extremity of each wire is connected with the extremity of the wire A. 6o
When a coat or vest is applied to the hanger, the front brace occupies its full-line position, and thereafter the coat having been put in position on the shoulder-sustaining portion the front brace is brought out to occupy the position shown by the dotted lines, Fig. 2, and in this condition the user of the hanger may button the coat or vest, if desired.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters 7o Patent, is
l. A hanger for clothing, comprising a wire bent to sustain the shoulders of garments, the extremities of the wire being connected by a brace, trousers-clamping jaws pivoted on said brace, and means to force the jaws together.
2; A hanger for clothing comprising a wire bent to sustain the shoulders of garments, extremities of the wire being connected by a 8o brace, trousersclamping jaws pivoted on said brace, means to force the jaws together, and a breast-sustaining portion.
3. In a hanger for clothing, a wire bentto sustain the shoulder of garments, the ex 85 tremities of the wire being united by a brace,
an independent stay interposed between the central part of said bent wire and the brace to sustain the latter between its ends, and trousers clamping means comprising jaws 9o and-arms connected with said stay.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
TIMOTHY D. SUGRUE.
