TO ALL WHOM IT MAYICONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM GBE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Apparatus for Filling Siphon-Bottles; .and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
v This invention relates te a new and improved apparatus for iilling' glass Siphon-bottles, those designed for .holding liquids impregnated with carbonio acid gas, and which are provided with a faucet or valve to admit of the liquid being drawn from the bottles as required for use.
The object of the-invention is to obtain a device for the purpose specified, which will admit of the bottles being charged or filled with the greatest facility, without material waste of liquid, and which will admit of being adapted for {il-ling or charging bottles of different shapes or patterns, and capable of being'adjusted to suit the height of different operators, so that a. manor boy may use the apparatus. In the accompanying sheet of 'drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention.
Figure 2, is a plan or top view of the same.
Figure 3, an enlarged side sectional view of a portion of the same, showing the manner in which the bottles arefapplied to the apparatus in order to be filled or charged. I
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a. standard, which may be of cylindrical form, of metal, and having a suitable base, B, at
its lower end, to serve as a support. On this standard there are fitted four lateral or horizontal brackets, C C
C 0', which maybe secured at any desired height and distance apart by set-screws. The brackets C C serve as guides for a. vertical rod, D, which is allowed to slide freely in their outer ends, and is moved or adjusted upward, when desired, by means of a treadle, E, fitted in the lower bracket 0', as will be fully understood by referring to tig. 1. The upper arm, C, is a telescopic one, thatis to say, is composed of the partsab, the latter, b, being fitted in the former, a, sc rthatiit maybe turned or adjusted further in or out, and retained at any desired point by a. set-screw, c, (see iig. 2.) The adjustable part b is a tube of right-angular form, its lower or pendent part receiving the nozzle of the siphon of the bottle to be filled, as shown 'in red in iig. 1. The upper horizontal part of b communicates with a. tube, d, provided with a. two-way cock, F, the tube d communicating with the reservoir containing the liquid with which the lbottles are filled. A waste-pipe leads from cock F. Grep resents what I term a foot, which is secured to the upper end of the rod and in which the outer end of the bottle-siphon and the valve-lever are inserted when a bottle is applied to the apparatus. This footis of such a shape or size that the lev'er of the valve of the Siphon will be acted upon when the outer end of the siphon is inserted in the foot and said valve opened. This will' be understood by referring to fig. 3, in which [LX shows the lever of thc Siphon-valve, and Zz`^' the` nozzle of the Siphon. f
When the empty hottlc (inverted) is thus inserted in the foot, as shown in iig. 3, the rod Dis shoved up by actuating the treadle E, and the nozzle ZIX is thereby pushed up into the pendent part of the adjustable tube b of the bracket C, and the two-way cock F is then turned, to allow the liquid to pass into the siphon, and when as much liquid has been passed into the bottle as the latter will hold in connection with the compressed air therein, the cock F is turned, to allow said air to escape from` the bottle and be discharged through the wastepipe c. After this air isdischarged from the bottle, the cock-F is again turned, to allow the liquid to pass into the Siphon, and the bottle is filled. l
Y The foot G is provided with an escape-pipe,f, through which any drip from the nozzle into the foot may escape. I
H represents a guard, to protect the operator from the fragments of bursting bottles. This guard isvprovided with an arm, y, fitted loosely on the part a of the bracket, so that it may turn thereon. This arm g is 'provided with a lateral pin, z, which extends within a notch, z', in an adjustable collar, j, on a. This collarj -serves as a. stop for the guard, holding it higher or lower, according to the position of the collar.
The varying of the position of the guard is necessary, in order that it may be used with bottles of different size `and shape. This guard is raised while the bottle is being applied to the apparatus, and lowered over `the bottle when the latter is adjusted in position to be filled.
B'y having the part 0f the bracket C adjustable, as described, and by using feet G of different sizes and forms, the bottles of diexent manufacture, which vary in form, may be used, as the apparatus can be adapted to them, and, by having all the brackets C C CC adjustable on the standard A, the apparatus can be adjusted to suit the height of the operator.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pateut- V 1. The telescopic bracket C, adjustable substantially as described, when applied to'an apparatus for filling` Siphon-bottles, for the purpose speeied.
2. The foot Gr, applied to a sliding rod, D, and arranged to voperate in connection with the bracket C and. the parts thereto attached, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The adjustable notched collar j on the part a ofthe braeket C, in combination with the pin ofthe arm y of the guard H all arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
WILLIAM GEE.
