Description

I A Mik/73161723 Sarl/Myx? M26/21226.

Letters Patent No. 73,591, dated January 21, 1868.
IMPROVED SAUSAGE-IILLEB..

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: 4 i
Be it known that I, MARTIN FEUERSTEIN. of Williamsburg, in the county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Machine for Filling sausages; -andiI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a longitudinal vertical section of my invention.
Figure 2 is aplan or top view ofthe same. I
Figure 3 is a detail front view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
-This invention relates to a new machine for filling sausages, and consists in the use of a cylindrical vessel, into which the material to he filled into the skins is pluccd, and in which a piston is arranged, by which the contents are gradually forced downward. The piston-rod is pivoted to the endof a hook-shaped rod, which has teeth on-its straight portion, fitting into the cogs of a pinion. In the lower part of the cylinder is a hole, through which the contents are forced into a tube, over which the skin to be fitted is drawn. The tube is made removable, so that tubes of different diameters, for various kinds of sausages, may be employed.
A. represents a vertical cylinder, made of cast metal, or other material, so as to be of suliicicnt strength, and fitted upon a bed, B, which can bc screwed or otherwisefastencd to a table or other stationary device. The bot-tom of the cylinder is closed, butl its top is open, as shown. Near to its bottom the sideof the cylinder A perforated, and u. horizontal tube, a, is formedon the cylinder, as shown. In the end of the tube 1 is formed a. dovetail groove to receive a wedge-shaped plate, b, formed on the end cfa tube, c. Thus by means of the wedge-shaped plate Z1 and groove on tube a, the tube c can be easily slipped on or oil' the tube a, and tubes c, of various diameters, can therefore'be arranged on the apparatus at will. On the bed B are arranged kupright standards() C, which form the bearings for two shafts, D and E, respectively. The driving-shaft D carries a small pinion, d, which meshes into a gear-wheel, e, that is mounted on the shaft E, as shown. .A pinion,f, on the shaft E, meshes into the teeth of a ratchet-bar, g, as shown. The driving-shaft is provided with aicrank and handle, h, and when it is revolved, by means of the said crank, or its equivalent, the ratchet-bar g is moved up or down, according to the direction in which the shaft sturned. The upper end of the ratchet-bar g is bent, so that its end will be vertically over the axis of the cylinder A, and to this end of the berg is pivoted the piston-rod on the lowex`- end of which the piston Fis secured. Thus it will be seen that the piston can bemoved up or downin the cylinder by turning the shaft I). y
When the cylinder is tobe filled, the piston is drawn out ofthe tube, and can be swung aside, leaving the mouth of the cylinder quite open, as is indicated by. red lines in fig. l. Then' the piston is inserted, and is gently forced down, pressing the contents of the cylinder through the tubes a and c, into the bag or skin secured for their reception around the tube c.
' Having thus-described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The piston-rod t', when pivoted to the end of the bent ratchet-bar g, with which bar the piston-rod is arranged, and moves parallel, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. A machine for tillinr sausages, consisting of the upright cylinder'A, piston E, piston-rod pivoted to the reciprocating bar y, and of the tube a, provided to receive and hold the removable tube c, all made and operating:r substantially as herein shown and described.
MARTIN FEUERSTEIN.
