INHALER.
SPECIFIGATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 723,268, dated March 24, 1903 Application filed December 10, 1901- Serial No. 85,368. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I', KARL GREIMER, a subject of the King of Bavaria, and a resident of Plauen, near Dresden, in the Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented a new and useful Improvement inApparatus for Administering Nasal Inhalations, of which the following is a specification.
An apparatus embodying this invention comprises a receptacle or vessel suitable for containing a liquid from which the vapors to be inhaled are evolved and provided with forked or branched deliverytubes having nozzles adapted to beintroduced into the nostrils, dischargingthereinto the vaporized products evolved from the liquid in the vessel.
The improvement consists in certain oombinations, illustrated by the accompanying drawing and hereinafter described and claimed, in which such vessel, tubes, and nozzles constitute elements.
The drawing represents a central vertical section of a complete apparatus in which my improvement is embodied in a simple form.
a designates a flask adapted to receive the liquid to be vaporized. Into the neck of this A flask is inserted a tube cl, at the head of which there are two branches b b, which terminate in nozzles at a suitable distance apart to be inserted together into the nostrils. Within this tube (2 is a second and smaller tubef. The upper end of this tube f,which is attached to the crown of the tube cl, is open'only to the atmosphere between the branches 7) of said tube d, and the lower end of said tube f has open communication with the interior of the flask below the bottom of the tube (1 at a point above the level to which the liquid is to be contained in the flask. Around the tube dis a packing e, which makes an airtight connection between the said tube and the neck of the flask. This packing is represented .as constituted by a hollow cork or stopper, of elastic material, whichis fitted tightly into the neck of the flask and into the interior of which the tube at fits air-tight. The said tube 01 is adjustable upward and downward in said packing or stopper to bring the lower end of the attached tube f to a suitable level above the surface of the liquid in ing replaced, the nozzles are applied to the nostrils of the patient, who then byinhaling through said nozzles draws air through the tube f and over the surface of the liquid, and
thenc'e through the tube d and its branches and nozzles into the respiratory passages and organs, the air in so passing through the apparatus becoming charged with the vapor which it absorbs from the liquid in its passage over the surface thereof.
What I claim as my invention is- In an apparatus for administering nasal inhalations, the combination with a vessel, of
a hollow stopper of elastic material fitted to the mouth of said vessel, an outer tube fitted to the interior of said hollowstopper and ad- ,1 ust'able upward and downward therein and having two branches terminating in nozzles,
and an inner tube attached to and passing through said outertube and open at its inner and outer ends, substantially as herein described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 28th day of -November, 1901.
