Description
UNITED "STATES Patented May 12 1903.
ARTHUR H. BADTKE, OF BEAVERDAM, WISCONSIN.
COMPOSITION FOR DESTROYING AND REMOVING CARBON 0R SO OT FROM'S TOVES, RAN GES," &c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 72 8,176,*da.ted May 12,1903.
Application filed January 27, 1903. Serial Nof140f77 9. (N0 Spe imens i To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR R. RADTKE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Beaverdam, in the county of Dodge and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful composition of matter to be. used for the purpose of destroying and removing all carbon and soot from the surfaces of stoves, ranges, heaters, furnaces,furnace-fiues,pipes, chimneys, engines, fireplaces, boiler-fiues,and all other appliances and structures wherein or whereon soot or carbon is collected by or collects as the result of burning bituminous coal, of which the following is a specification.
Powdered fenugreek, one ounce; chlorid of zinc, two ounces; sulfite of zinc, two ounces; loose carbon, four ounces; chlorid of sodium, thirty-two ounces, the same to be thoroughly mingled by stirring or agitation.
In using the above-named composition a hot fire should be-created in the stove or other structural appliance and a quantity of the composition should be placed on the burning coals and the fire maintained for about three hours. For ranges and small heaters from two to three table-spoonfuls should be used at a time and the amount increased proportionately with the size of the structure, stove, or appliance from which it is sought to remove the soot or carbon.
in 1 one compound.
By the use of the above composition as above directed carbon and soot are speedily destroyed and removed from all surfaces upon which they have collected as the'result of burning bituminous coal.
I .am not aware that all of the ingredients of my composition have been used together What I claim, and desire to-secure by Let ters Patent of the United States, is V 1. The herein described composition of matter consisting of powdered'fenugreek,
chloridot' zinc, loosecarbon, sulfite of zinc, and chlorid of sodium, substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
2. The herein-described composition of matter for removing and destroying carbon or soot, consisting of powdered fenugreek one ounce, chlorid of zinc two ounces, sulfite ARTHUR R. RADTKE.
