ATENT HARVEY R. BROGIUS AND THOMAS A. ESHELMAN, OF SUMMERVILLE, PENN SYIZVANIA.
FLUX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 728,079, dated May 12, 1903.
Application filed October 30, 1902. Serial No. 129,482. (No specimens.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, HARVEY R. BROOIUS and THOMAS A. ESHELMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Summerville, in the county of J efierson and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fluxes; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to improvements in compounds for fluxes, and has for its object to provide such a compound for use in soldering, welding, brazing, 850., which will thoroughly and quickly prepare the parts to be joined.
The compound consists of the following ingredients in substantially the proportions given: Vaseline, eight ounces; hydrochloric acid, two ounces, or muriatic acid, three ounces; zinc, four ounces; sal-ammoniac,onefourth of an ounce; boraX, one-fourth of an ounce; charcoal, twenty grains.
In mixing our compound preferably crude zinc is dissolved in either hydrochloric or muriatic acid. The Vaseline is then melted and combined with the sal-ammoniac, borax,
(preferably powdered,)andcharcoal. The two resulting products after being filtered are combined and beaten or stirred for about thirty minutes.
In using our compound the joints are preferably filed and then our fluxing compound applied thereto; but the care usually necessary in handling the joints after they have been filed and before fluxing is obviated by our improved compound, as even touching the joints with the fingers or pouring oil thereon will not affect the brazing, soldering, or welding of the parts after our fiux has been applied. The compound while being used is perfectly odorless.
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A fiuxing compound, consisting of Vaseline, hydrochloric acid, zinc, sal-ammoniac, borax and charcoal.
In testimony whereof we affix our sigma tures in presence of two witnesses.
HARVEY R. BROCIUS. THOMAS A. ESHELMAN.
