HAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part QfLetters Patent N 0. 727,806, dated May 12, 1903.
Application filed January 19, 1903- Serial No. 139,664. No model.)
- a citizen of the United States, residing at Coal- The invention further comprises the. details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hame attachment. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of clip.
Referring to the drawings, 1- indicates ahame, which may be of the usual or any desired construction, except that it is provided in accordance with my invention with two transverse holes in vertical alinement and suitably spaced apart.
2 indicates an upper bearing-plate provided with a pin or the like 3, which in practice is inserted into the upper hole in the halne in order to attach the bearing-plate thereto, and 4 is a lower bearing-plate provided with a pin 5, adapted to be inserted into the lower hole in the hame in like manner and for the purpose above described in connection with the upper bearing plate. These bearingplates are provided with suitable annular eyes which receive the upper and lower ends of a vertical member 6. This member is preferably in the form of a bolt or rod having its body portion screw-threaded throughout its length with the exception of its end portions, which are seated in the eyes in the bearingplates for pivotally attaching the member 6thereto and permitting its free ro; tation. The bolt 6 is provided with an angular portion 7, adapted to receive a wrench for rotating the member, and with a vertical slot 8 for the purpose to be presently described.
9 indicates a clip or the like provided at nally screw-threaded to conform to and engage with the screw-threads on the vertical member 6. This clip is provided with suitable means for attaching the end of a trace thereto, which means in the present instance consists of rearwardly-projecting fingers between which the end of the trace is inserted and secured in place by means of suitable rivets.
l0isaset-screwtappedhorizontally through the wall of the clip and adapted to engage the vertical groove 8 in the member 6 in order to securely lock the clip thereto when desired.
The lower bearing member is provided with an extended portion 11, perforated to IGCGWO and sustain a ring 12.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3 I have illustrated a clip adapted for the attachment of a bolt-trace, in which device the removable bolt 13 is inserted through a suitable loop formed at the end of the trace; but in other respects the clip is similar in its construction and operation to that above described.
In the operation of the device when it is desired to adjust the end of the trace with relation to the hame'in order to regulate the drafton the animal the set-screw 10 is 100sened and the member 6 is rotated to the right or left in order to cause the clip to travel upward or down ward thereon, as circumstances may require. When the clip has arrived at the desired point, it and the member 6 are again locked by means of the set-screw to prevent accidental turning of either of the parts and disarrangem'ent of, the adjustment.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have produced a device which is simple of construction and operation, one in which the trace may be readily adjusted relative to the hame, and one in which the accidental disar rangement of such adjustment is positively and entirely obviated. Inattaining these ends I do not limit myself to the details of construction herein shown and described,,inasmuch as minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention. y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The combination with a hame, of a pair of one end with an annular hole which is interhorizontal bearing-plates carried thereby, a
vertical bolt pivotally sustained by the bearing-plates and adapted to be rotated, said bolt having its body screw-threaded and a Vertical slot formed therein, a clip having one end threaded on the vertical bolt and adapted to be adjusted upward or downward thereon by the rotation of the latter, a set-screw carried by the clip and adapted to engage the slot in the bolt for locking the parts, and 10 means for attaching a trace to the clip.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOSEPH E. KEVERLINE.
