Be it known that LEDWARD WILLIAM WAR- RINER, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland,and a resident of Attercliffe,Sheffield, county of York, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stylographic or other Fountain-Pens, (for which I have filed an application for British patent, No. 21,075, dated October 21, 1901;) and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

This invention relates to stylographic and other fountain-pens, and has for its object to avoid the necessity for any separate device for charging the ink-reservoir, and to this end is characterized by providing the pen with a collapsible and expansible ink-reservoir having means of coiling so as to collapse it to expel air therefrom and of uncoiling it or allowing it to uncoil to allow it to expand, so as when the nib-holder end is immersed in ink to become charged with the latter by atmospheric pressure.

On the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation showing the expanded ink-charged or normal condition of the reservoir. Fig. 2 represents a like View at right angles to Fig. 1, showing the collapsed condition of the reservoir; and Fig. 3 represents a modification with the nib and inkfeeder removed.

0 represents the collapsible and expansible ink-reservoir, which preferably consists of india-rubber, but may consist of a bladder or other suitable impervious material, and extends from near one end of the holder, at which it is secured and its end is open, to near the other end of the holder, at which it is movable relatively to the holder and its end is closed. I

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the secured end of the reservoir is vulcanized or cemented to a hollow ferrule d,which screws into the holder end and is firmly located by the nib-holder e, which carries the nibf and ink-feeder g and screws into the holder end into abutment with the ferrule, the ink-feederprojectinginto and taking its supply from the hollow ferrule, which opens into the reservoir.

The movable end of the reservoir is vulcanized or cemented to a stem h, which works in a collar t', (which screws into and is adjustable in the holder end,) and beyond the collar is fitted with a turning head j, which screws into the holder end and projects beyond the latter sufficiently to be capable of being taken hold of and turned. The reservoir ends may be further secured to the forrule 01 and stem h, respectively, by surrounding collars 71:.

Then it is required to charge the reservoir with ink, the head is turned with an unscrewing motion in the holder end, which causes the reservoir to twist, so as to collapse and expel any contained air, and upon the nib-holder end being immersed in ink and the head j reversely screwed the reservoir expands and the ink is forced thereinto by atmospheric pressure.

In the modification represented in Fig. 3 the secured end of the reservoir 0 is vulcanized or cemented to a hollow plug d, which screws into the adjacent ends of the holder 0. and nib-holder e or may be made integral with the latter. The end of the reservoir by which it is turned is stopped by a plug land is free from any connection to the holder by which it is inclosed, so that upon the holder and reservoir-carrier 01 being disconnected the reservoir can be charged by twisting it and by untwisting it or allowing it to untwist while the nib-holder end is immersed in ink.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
