IMPROVD SASH-GORD PAS-TENER.
@te Srlgemle referat tu intime trttet @tout mth making Vtutti tlg: sume. i
'lO ALL'WI-IOM IT MAY CONCERN: t Be it known that I, JOHN CORREJA, of Brooklyn, in the county of" Kings, andState of New York, have` i invented, made, and applied to use, a certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Cord Fasteners; and I do hereby `declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the said invention,- reference heing hadh to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, whereinl Figure 1 is an elevation of said cord-fastener, and Figure 2 is a vertical `si'ection of the same. SimilarI marks of reference denote the samc'parts. i i I Heretofore it has been usual to plough a groovein the edge of the window-sash, and from that bore a hole into a larger hole entering the edge of the sash, so as to thread the sash-cord into place, and `tia a knot that `remains t inthis last-nnmed larger holo. 4This is attended with considerable labor, both in making the sash and hanging` l it,and if the sash has to be plaued o, the groove and hole are not doop enough in the wood.` To remedy these difficulties, an iron ring has been made toset into the edge of the sash, with a lip, behindiwhich the cord at the knot is passed, but ixihpractice this is found to cut' the `sash-cord, and also to allow the knot to project and rulil th'ewindow-frame as the sash goes up or down.v l i The nature of my said invention consists in a metallic socket for thcknot, closed, or` nearly so, onits outer: end, so as to. keep the knot ,from contact with the window-frame, in combination with a 'tubular-` cord-holder` i formed on onoside of the knot-socket,'and thro'ugh which. the cord passes, in such a manner that there Vis no liability ofthe cord being cut near theV knot. Y l t. a i l l In the drawing, a representsa portion of'thesash-frame with'tlle groove on its edge forrthe cord d. c is"` a socket forthe knot of the cord al, and e is the tnbixlar cord-holder passing o on the `upper side of the socket c. Through this the cord passes, and is ptectedfro'm cutting or injury near the knot, and thccord-holder epesses i into the groove b, while the knot-holding socket e is entered into a hole bored into theedge ofthe sash.` `Asan` additional security, the socket c may be continued down in the form of a ange,f, and recevea screw so that the cord-fastener cannot become loosened or project from the side of the sash. This metallic socket'becomes va.` lfixture tol the sash-cord itself, and allows the sash to be disconnected from thecordlby simply drawing said socket out of its cavity in the side of the sash. Thls'allows the sash to be removed with great lfacility forplan ingol` the edges if i`t-b ecomes vnecessary ineasing the sash, or for cleaning and polishingthe-lglass, and 'the sash?` i cord cannot be drawn into the weight-box when detached from the sash, becausethe metallic socket becomes ai ,t stop agansttlie pulley. i l i A What I claim, anddesire to secure by Letters'Patent, is a t e The sash-cord fastener, formed4 of the socket c, for enclosing the knot, combined with the tubnlaxacoxd-` holder e upon one side, and adapted to being applied to the sash, in t-he manner speciied. t
' In witness whereof` I have hereunto set my signature this eighth day of August,lA. D. 1867.
