FRANK A. LUCAS, OF'PADUCAH, KENTUCKY.
NGN-'REHLLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 710,875, dated October 7, 1902.
application filed .Tune 16, 1902. Serial No. 111,901. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKA. LUCAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paducah, in the county of McCracken and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful 1mpiovements in Non Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to non-relillable botties; and the object of the same is to construct a device of this character which cannot be refilled when once emptied.
The simple and novel construction employed by me in carrying out my inventionis fully described in this specification and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectionY of my bottie. Fig. 2 is a detail of the plug. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the neck with plug removed, taken on the line 3 3, Fig. 1.
Like numerals of reference designate like parts in the different views of the drawings.
The numeral 1 designates a bottle having a body 2 and a hollow neck 3, formed integral therewith. The neck is traversed b y a bore Ll., reduced at 5 to form a valve-seat, which is reamed out at 5a to accommodate a ball 6, designed to prevent the entrance of liquid into the bottle. The bore 4 is traversed throughout a portion of its length by a coarse thread 7, which serves to engage and retain a screw-plug S, tted in the neck. The plug S is formed in two partsto wit, a hollow threaded body 9 and a perforated head 10- which bear a series of beveled ratchet-teeth 11, which mesh with a like series 12 of teeth formed in the body 9. The teeth 11 and 12 are so beveled that they will hold positively when the head is turned, so that the plug 8 will be screwed downinto the neck, but will ride over each other and'permit the head 10 to turn independently of the body 9 when the head is turned counter-clockwise in the direction to unscrew the plug. This renders it The head 10 bears a flange 13, which engages a groove 14. and holds it against removal from the neck, but permits it to turn freely. Grooves 15, traversing the neck 3 longitudinally7 admit air to the bottle.
In assembling my bottle the ball 6 is dropped into its seat 5 and the plug 8 inserted and screwed into the neck by means of a wrench inserted in the perforation 10 in the head 10. After the plug has once been screwed down it will be impossible to remove it.
1 do not wish to be limited as to details of construction, as these maybev vmodified inv many particulars without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a bottle, the combinationwitha neck having a threadedY bore therein reduced to form a valve-seat, a valve mounted in said seat and arranged to prevent the entrance of liquid into the bottle, and av plug fitted in said bore and comprising a threaded body bearing ratchet-teeth, and a head bearing ratchet-teeth engaging said ratchetteeth formed on said body, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK A. LUCAS. Witnesses:
G. W. PoTTs, J. M. GILBERT.
