SEECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 710,665, dated October 7, 1902.
Application filed June 16, 1902. Serial No. 111,842. (No model.)
To all, whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN J. CANNON and JOHN M. ARNOLD, residing at 2709 Dodge street, Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain useful Improvements in Mite or Lice Killing Nest-Eggs; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a novel article of man .ifacture, and comprises an evaporating nest-egg made up of certain evaporating vermin-killing materials.
In the accompanying drawing we have shown our article of manufacture.
The aim of our invention is to provide an artificial nest-egg, to be made up of a vermin ki1ling or exterminating material shaped to conform to an egg, adapted to be placed in a nest to deceive the fowl.
In carrying out the aim of our invention we make a nest-egg composed of naphthaleneflakes, which is mixed with oil of cedar and oil of mustard, and compress this mixture in molds to form the articles in the form of eggs. These egg-shaped articles of manufacture are then placed in the hens nest, and while the odor is exceedingly pungent the fowl does not hesitate to enter the nest, seeing the egg, by which the fowl seems to be attracted. Were this material in the form of a powder or in other shape, the fowls are not likely to enter the nest because of the objectionable odor and in discovering a foreign matter in the nest. In forming a vermin-killing material into the shape of an egg this objection is overcome.
Our article of manufacture may be made in various sizes.
Having thus described our said invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is
A nest-egg comprising a body of naphthalene, impregnated with oil of cedar and oil of mustard, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
