DAVIDv n. BEATY, or AURORA, -INDIANA, ,AssIe-Non To vHiMsnLr AND t JAMEsLAMB. y
l l Leners Patent Nb. 71,954, ma ecmbw- 1o, 1867.
IMPnoVED PLATE-METER.
TO ALL WIIOM I'l MAY CONOERN:
-Be it known that I, DAVID BVBEATY, (assigner to myself and James Lamb,) of Aurora, in the county of Dearborn, and in the State of Indiana, have inv'entcd certain new and useful Improvements in- Plate-Lifters; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of re-'crence Vmarled thereon. p
In the annexed drawings, making part of'this'sp'oifcation, A represents a handle, which has secured into its outer end a staple or eye. B I3 B rcpresentthreehooks, which lare placed equidistant apart, and which have their inner ends coilcdaroundor into the staple or eye. C representen rod, which is bent in the mannerV seen, and is pivoted near its centrc'to the handle; said handlev being embraced between the two parts of the rod. The rod has one of its ends bent or looped around the hooks Rand then fastened to-its other end. u
By bearing down the free end of the rod C, that end which is looped around thc'hhooks causes said hooks to rise, while, by raising it from the handle, the' hooks fall, so' as to embrace a plate npc-n three sides, as seen in the figure. The hooks will fall of their own gravity, and catch and hold a plate, and the handle may be used for loosening the grasp of the hooks. To malte the hoolfzsgrasp the' plate'tightly, it is necessary to'use i the rod C.
, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The curved wires B B D, having hooks at their lower ends, andY connected to a handle, A, said handle being provided with a wire loop, formed into a spring, which connects Vto the wires B, so that, by pressing upon this spring C, thewires B are caused to separateand release the plate, all constructed as specified.
In testimony that Iela-im the foregoing,-I have hereunto set myliand, this 20th dayot' September, 1867.
DAVID B. BEATY.
