Description

@nimh I ftent getest @ffice IMIROVED IMPLEMBNT FORLIGHTING GAS.
HoF- clttgt stimule aferra it in that tettsrt what mit mating tutt nt tigt tame.
TO ALL-WHOM IT MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. HoUcHIN, of Morrisana., in the county of lfll'estchester, New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a new and useful Implement for Lighting Gras; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, andco'rrect description of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Y Figure 1 is a front view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same.
In the drawings, like parts of the invention are designated by the same letters of reference.
The nature of my invention consists in certain improvements in the construction and operation of an improved implement for lighting gas, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
y To enable those skilled in 'the arts to make and use my invention, I will describe its` construction and operation.
A shows the receiver for the alcohol or other spirit employed, placed at the lower end of a tube, B. This receiver is provided with an opening to `allow the, alcohol to be introduced into the same, which opening may be closed by a nut,'a. l b Iat its opposite end. This tube may be of any desired length, and may be bent or curved in any direction deemed best for the purpose intended. The wick-chamber C consists of a tubular receptacle secured upon the end of the tube B, which thus'is made to communicate directly with it, into which the wick D is introduced, the wiel: passing through the short tube B2 attached to the lower end of the wick-chamber. Such being the construction', the operation is as follows: The receivei` being supplied with alcohol or other spirit suitable for the purpose, and tbe wick-chamber being charged with wick, which is also passed through the tube B2, in orderl to charge the wick-chamber, the torch or implements is simply inverted, by which the-alcohol or other spirit contained in thereeeiverAis made to pass through the tube into the wick-chamber C, saturating the wick contained therein; and this operation is repeated from time to time, as it may be deemed necessary to supply alcohol or other suitable spirit to the wick. i
The particular advantage resulting from placing the receiver A. ator near th'e lower end of the tube B, is that-it is so far removed from the burner that all danger of explosion and liability of the same to evaporate is thoroughly guarded against, while by combining the same with a tube and wick-chamber, as shown, a useful and convenient article for generalv-use'is obtained.
Having'thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
v1. I claim placing a receiver, A, at the lower end of a tube, B, for the purposes fully described.
2.- 'lhe combination of a receiver, A, tube B, and wick-chamber 0,'when the same shall be constructed substantially as described for the purposes set forth. t
' THOMAS W. HOUCHIN.

B is a tube communicating with the receiver A, and with the wick-'chamber C secured
