NITED- SAMUEL A. MYERS, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 716,081, dated December 16, 1902.
Application filed September 18. 1902. Serial No. 123,813. (No model.)
T0 to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. MYERs, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gentlemens Pantaloons, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
My invention relates to gentlemens pantaloons, and has for its object animprovementin the appearance of the pantaloons when worn without a vest or suspenders without sacrificing any of the conveniences of the ordinary pantaloons; and it consists in certain novel features of construction, arrangement, and combination'of parts, which will be readily understood by reference to the description of the accompanying drawings and to the claims hereto appended and in which my invention is clearly pointed out.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front eleva tion of a pair of pantaloons, illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of a small section of the upper portion of the garment and showing one "of the buttonholes, through which is passed one of the rear susspender-buttons when suspenders are to be worn, but from which the button is now removed. Fig. 3 is a similar view with the but ton shown in full lines in position to receive the suspender. Fig. 4 is an elevation of the same parts looking at the interior of the waistband. Fig. 5 is a section onsline A A on Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a section on line B B on Fig. 3. Fig. 7 is an inside elevationof a small section of the upper portion ofthe garment surrounding one of the front buttonholes and illustrating the manner of attaching the front Suspender-button. Fig. 8 is a'section on line C O on Fig. 7 and showing the button and buttonhole-tabs buttoned together inside of the waistband and supporting the drawers, and Fig. 9 is a similar section showing the two tabs buttoned together and the button passed throughthe buttonhole in the waistband in position to receive the suspender.
In the drawings, 1 1 represent the two legs of a pair of pantaloons.
2 is the waistband.
3 3 are loops through which a belt may be passed when one is to be worn.
The waistband of the garment has a series which projects upward, so as to cover said buttonholes, and each tab has attached to the side thereof next to the waistband of the pantaloons a button 6, which may be passed through the buttonhole in the waistband into a position to receive the suspender whenever it is desired to use suspenders to support the pautaloons; but when suspenders are not to be worn the button is withdrawn from the buttonhole into the position shown in Fig. 5. A similar tab 5 and button 6 are attached to the inside of the waistband, below the front buttonholes in the waistband, of the pantaloons, and an additional tab 7, havinga buttonhole 8 formed therein, is secured by one end to the waistband, above the buttonhole in said waistband, and depends from said point of attachment, so that its'buttonhole will be in position to receive the button 6.
In using my invention without suspenders the suspender-buttons are all withdrawn from the buttonholes in the waistband of the pantaloon-s and the tabs 5 and 7 are buttoned together; but if suspenders are to be worn the buttons 6 are all passed through the buttonholes in the waistband, the tabs 5 and 7 hav- 'ing previously been buttoned together, as described. The loop formed by the tabs 5 and '7 buttoned together is useful in supporting the drawers by passing the tab 5 through the loop 9 on the waistband of the drawers and then buttoning the tabs 5 and 7 together, as shown in Fig. 8. The drawers may be supportedin like manner whether suspenders are used or not without exposing them to view.
A decided improvement is made in the appearance of the pantaloons when worn without suspenders by the use of my invention, by which the suspender-buttons are made to disappear from sight.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is 1. Pantaloons for mens wear having buttonholes through the waistband in the positions usually occupied by the suspender-buttons, in combination with a tab secured to the inside of said waistband below each of said buttonho1es,and projecting upward from said point of attachment; and a button secured to said tab on the side thereof toward said Waistband in position to be passed through the buttonhole in said Waistband.
2. Pantaioons for mens wear, having buttonholes through the waistband in the positions usually occupied by the suspender-buttons, in combination with a tab secured to the inside of said Waistband below each of said buttonholes and projecting upward from said point of attachment; a button secured to the side of said tab adjacent to said waistband; a second tab secured to the inside of said waistband above each of a pair of the button- I 5 holes in the front of said Waistband and depending from its point of attachment, and having a buttonhole formed therein, .as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my 20 name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on this 16th day of September, A; D. 1902.
SAMUEL A. MYERS.
