Description
UNITED .STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER BING, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS TO MAX MANNE AND LOUIS GOLDSTEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLEANING AND WAXING PAD.
.SPECIFICATION forming pari'. of Letters Patent No. 715,951, dated December 16, 1902.
Application iiled August 25. 1902. Serial No. 120,909. (No model.)
To all whom, it nwty concern:
Beit known that LALEXANDER BING,a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at 749 East Ninth street, cit-y of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cleaning and Waxing Pads,
of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvementsv in appliances used for cleaning and waxing laundry and tailors irons; and it consists, principally, in the construction of a pad which may be closed or folded in compact form.
My invention purposes to obviate the usual eXtra exertion made by raising the iron in one hand while applying the wax with the other; and its further object is to provide a cleaning pad o1" mat in combination with the waxing-pad, whereby both articles may be kept conveniently within reach.
I n l I u u In describlng the lnvention 1n detail referl ence is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which for illustration I have shown my improved pad in an open and in a closed position.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of my improved cleaning and waXin g pad when opened out fiat. Fig. 2 is an end View, partly in section. Fig. 3 is an end view of my improved cleaning and waxing pad when closed. Fig. Il is a view of the dish of wax, partly in section. Fig. 5 is a view of the anchor-pin.
A is a backing or cover, of stii material, and maybe made of cardboard, wood, leather, or metal; but in order to avoid the use of hinges or joints the backing A is preferably made of cardboard or leather.
C is a covering, of mnslin or other suitable material, and is arranged in layers along the entire length of the backing A.
B is a paper dish containing wax D and is inserted between the layers of covering C at I.
.I is a wadding or packing,of cotton or other suitable substance, and may be quilted between the layers of covering O, as shown at E, or it may be bound down in any convenient manner. After the insertion of the wadding and the dish of wax the layers of covering C are sewed together at K and around the outer edges at L and L. The sewing at these points may also include the backing or cover A, as shown in the drawings at L', or the backing or cover may be pasted to the muslin covering or fastened by any suitable means. The object of the paper dish B is to prevent the wax D from spreading too rapidly under the inliueuce of the heat of the iron. H, Fig. 5, is a wire sharpened at both ends and bent into the form of a U to make an anchor for the pad. This anchor-pin is fastened to one end of the pad by the stitching L' and is intended to be pinned into the cloth or pressed into the wood of the ironing-board.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A combined cleaning and waxing pad consisting of a backing covered by layers of cloth, an interposing layer of cotton quilted between said layers of cloth on one side, and an interposing dish of wax between said layers of cloth on the other side, and a U-shaped anchor-pin retained between said layers of cloth substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER BING.
Witnesses:
JOHN L. ODONNELL, E. PERCY OBRIEN.
