TO` ALL WI'IOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, THOMAS W. BISHOP, of Austin, in the county of Scott, and 4State of Indiana, havey invented a new and useful Corn-Sheller; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beingl had to the accompanying drawings, which are made Ya part of this specieation. i

In the drawings,lA represents-a. metallic supporting frame, to which is screwed or otherwise united the casing B, which encloses the corn-shelling device. The upper portion rof the frameA forms a bearing for the.
vertical arbor or spindle C' of the bevel-wheel C. This wheel gears with a similar bevel-wheel, which has a central opening, D3, oft'lsuiicient size topermit the passage through the wheel of the largest corn-cabs. The hub or neck Dl of thewheel D is journalled in the rear wall of the casing B, as shownin g. .4. E E are two corresponding jaws er plates, which are cast so as to bulge in the middle, and leave an intervening opening when brought together. Thesejaws are cast with flanges E E', whereby they are secured to the front orfaee of the hub D1 by means of screws e3. The. wheel C is turned by 'a handle, F2, and imparts a rotary motion to the wheel D and jaws E. Y 'Y l v The ear of corn is introduced through an opening, B', in the front wall of the ,casing B, and the nose or point of the ear is inserted between the jaw-s E E. The ear is held against rotation by hand, and as the jaws rotate the projections e2 wedge themselves between the grains,'and rapidly separate the latter from the cob. The
shelled corn falls through the opening at the bottom of the easing B, and may be caught in a suitable receptacle, while the naked cob is fed between the jaws by the screw el, its protruding end being caught by hand and held' behind the wheel D till completely shelled and ejected from thejaws. The springs F permit the jaws E E to expand and contract, so that they will receive, embrace, and act with equal effect upon ears of different size. When the corn has g'wn ovethe endof a cob, the grains are removed from` the end or nose by giving ita twist in `the serrated opening G. This its the ear for the more perfect and complete action of the jaws.
Having described my invention, the following is what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. I claim the combination with the shelling device E'E o'f the gear-wheels C and D, hub Dl, and central 'opening D2,- substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. I claim the serrated opening G,. substantially as and for the purpose described.
