IMPROVEMENT IN THRESHING MACHINES.
filly: fitlgrbnli; l'titt'tth it in first "items that amt mating part i its tam.
To ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN} Be it known that I, C. L. sNlt'DER, of Hardin, in the county of Calhoun, and State ofIllino'is, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Threshing Machines; and do hereby declare that the-following is a full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters: of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates firstly to the arrangement of the gearing and operative parts of the machine. secondly to the-construction of the feed-board, and thirdly to the straw-heater and conveyor. i
To enable those skilled inthe art to make and use my improved threshing machine, I will proceed to' describe its construction' and operation.
Figure 1 of the drawings is'a side elevation of one of the improved threshers, Figure 2 is a top plan of the same, and l Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional elevation. The frame A, the casing or housing Ahandthe wheels A, are constructed and employed in the usual 'inanner, and need no minute description. The power, from whatever source derived, is transmitted by means of a belt-to the driving or cylindcrrshaft l3, and is communicated from thence to the other parts of the machine."
The thresher or,cy1in(lerB is placed upon the shaft 13, and operates in the usual manner upon the grain fed into it. The cog-wheel I), on the outerend of the shaft 13, gears into the wheel 0 upon the shaft, (Land the wheel 0 gears into the counter-wheel 02 upon the fan or blower-shaft D. Each of the wheels I; c ol 'is of such a size as tojgive the required-motion to the operative parts with which they are connected. On the opposite end ofthe blower-shaft D from the wheel cZ is an endless screw, cl, which gears; into a pinion on the forward end of the shaft E, and a crank and pitman attached to the back end of,the shaft transmittherequired reciprocating motion to the zi za or so orator-F. The blower cl is arran ed to blow directl thro u h these arater F and force the light chaff and clustou't atthe aperture f, while the good grain falls down through the spout). A, new feature is introduced into the constructioniot' the straw-conveyor 0' by the introduction of a central drum orbeater, 0. The action of this beater, which is composed of transverse slats afiixed to two heads, is to strike the conveyer with its slats as it revolves, and so shake out all of the grain that may he clinging to the straw.
' The feed-board G'is constructed so that it may he slipped out or in its place on the machine, when required, hy
'having tenons g on its forward end which fit into sockets in the frame A prepared to receive them;
zag or separator F, as and for the purpose shown and described.
Having described my invention, what I claim, is r 1. I claim arrangement and employment of the'cnd'less screw cl, in combination with the shaft'E; and z1g- 2. I claim the construction and arrangement of the feed-board G when applied to the frame A, as herein set forth. v
In testimony of which invention I hereuntoset my hand in presence of- .OHARLES LLSNYDER...
