STANLEY MOORE DEYVEY, OF RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY.
CALENDAR- BLOTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,169, dated May 27, 1902.
Application filed September 8, 1901. Serial No. 74,188. (No model.)
To (LZZ whom, it nuty concern:
Be it known that LSTANLEY MOORE DEWEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rutherford, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Calendar-Blotter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to providea new and improved calendar-blotter which is simple and durable in construction and arranged to combine both a convenient blotter and a daily calendar in such a manner that a newblotting-sheet or a new calendar can be readily inserted and securely held in position for convenient and handy blotting of frequent sheets and for displaying the day of the week, month, and year, together-with suitable advertising matter. V
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.'
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement with parts broken out, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the same.
The improved device consists, essentially, of a frame A, preferably in the shape of a block having a segmental bottom and a flat top, and on the ends of the said frame A are arranged clips 13 B, alike in construction and each connected to the frame by a transverse pivot O, as plainly indicated in Fig. 1. Each of the clips B is pressed on by the free ends of a spring D, secured to the frame at the top thereof, preferably in. a recess, as indicated in Fig. 1. Each clip B is in the form of an open pocket, into which extends the corresponding end of the frame A, and each clip consists of a bottom member B, an integral top member 13 and integral end pieces E the latter carrying the pivot O. The bottom member B and the end pieces form with the end of the frameA a pocket for receiving and holding the corresponding end of the blotting sheet or sheets E, and the said top member B and the end pieces B also form a pocket for receiving the ends of superimposed sheets F, held on the top of the frame'A and bearing legends representing a daily calendar or other matter, such as advertisements and the like. The top members B also form clamping-plates, pressing on the top of the uppermost of the sheets F, so as to securely hold the said superimposed sheets in position stretched on the top of the frame A. The blotter-paper E is stretched over the segmental bottom surface of the frame A and is held in this postion by the members B, as the tendency of the spring 0 is to swing the clips B in an upward direction to cause the bottommembers B to bear and press against the ends of the blotting-sheet E.
When it is desired to renew the blottingsheet E, the operator canreadily disengage the blotting-sheet from the clips and insert a new one, and the uppermost sheet F can be readily removed at the expiration of each day, so as .to display the date'of the following day. When the sheets Fhave been used up, a new set of sheets may be readily introduced and secured in position on the top of the frame A by the members B pressing on the uppermost sheet, as previously explained.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A blotter, comprising a frame, and clamping devices mounted on said frame, and each having two members which are provided with two separate gripping-surfaces adapted to respectively engage the under face of a blotting-sheet on the bottom of said frame, and the upper face of superimposed sheets on the top of said frame.
2. A calendar-blotter, comprising a frame having a segmental bottom, a blotting-sheet on said bottom, a calendar on the top of said frame, and a clamping device yieldably supported on the frame and provided with two members which are formed with grippingsurfaces adapted to respectively engage the under face of the blotting-sheet and the top face of the calendar.
3. A calendar-blotter, comprising a frame having a segmental bottom, a blotting-sheet on said bottom, a calendar on the top of said frame, and clamping devices individually fitted to the ends of the frame, each clamping device having members disposed-at an angle to each other and formed with grippingsurfaces arranged to hold the blotting-sheet and the calendar separately and removably in place on the frame. v
4. A calendar-blotter, comprising a frame having a segmental bottom,'a blottin g-sheet on said frame, a calendar on the top of said frame, and spring clamping-clips at the ends of the frame and each provided with separate gripping-surfaces disposed at an angle to one another, said gripping-surfaces of each clip adapted to individually hold the end portions of the blotting-sheet and the similar portions of the calendar.
5. A calendar-blotter, comprising a frame having a segmental bottom,,a blotting-sheet on said frame, a calendar on the top of said frame, clips at the ends of the frame and provided'with angularly disposed members which have gripping-faces adapted to individually holdthe blotting-sheet and said calendar in position on the frame, and springs pressing said clips and holding both members thereof in active engagement with the blotter and the calendar.
6. The combination with a frame, of clips held on the ends of said frame, each clip having angularly-disposed members which are provided with gripping-faces arranged in opposing relation to the under side and the top face of the frame respectively, a clampingplate at the top of the frame, and springs pressing the clips for both surfaces thereof to occupy active relation to the frame.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
STANLEY MOORE DEWEY.
