UNITED STATES VPATENT OFFICE.9
W. R. BOERNER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNORVTO HIMSELF AND CARL R. `BOERNER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN WIRE-WORK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 70,946, dated November 19, 1867.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, WANNIBALD R. BOERNER, ot' Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of' Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wire-Work; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and theletters and gures marked thereon, which form a part otl this specilication, and in which- Figurel represents aside elevation of apiece of my improved Wire-work.
The nature of my invention l.consists in a novel way ot' bending and putting together wire so as to form rm and compact wire-Work in which the wires will all be kept in place more securely than in ordinary wire-work.
The main wires which constitute the wirework have angles bent in them in opposite directions, at suitable distances apart, for the binding-wire B, said distances depending upon the size of the wire and the coarseness ofthe work. The binding-wires are two wires twisted together, as clearly shown in the drawing. The angles in the main wires A are so arranged in putting the work together that two of said wires pass through the twisted wire together, and said angles extend above and below the line ot' direction of the main wire alternately, as clearly shown in the drawing. By this arrangement the main Wires A will not turn in the twisted wires and become displaced; neither will the twisted wires slide laterally on the main wires, and thereby destroy the uniformity and at the same time weaken the structure of the Wire-work.
I do not limit myself` to any particular anglein the wires A, for a curve or any kind ot' a bend would make substantially the same kind otl work, neither do I limit myself to wires twisted together, for I consider that any coustruction whereby two bent Wires pass through the same loop and accomplish the two results above specified-that is, preventing the turning of' the main wires and the lateral sliding of the binding-wires--is my invention.
Having fully described the construction and operation,wl|ut I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Vire-Work to be used for any purpose, when constructed substantially as herein described.
VVANNIBALD R. BOERNER.
