IMPROVED RAILWAY` CHAIR.

Bc it known that I, PETER ALLEN, of Rutland, in the county of Rutland, and State of Vermont, have invented :t new and useful improvement in Railroad Chairs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a i`ull, clear, and exnct description thereof, which will enable others skilled in ,the art to make and use the same, reference being had to' the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in vwhich- Figure I is a vertical transversesection taken in the line y y, tig. 2, showingthe connection of my improved chair with the ends of the rails. i

This invention relates to an improvement in the construction of'r'ailroad chairs, and conssts'in'lmaking two plates of cast iron, which form the bed and sides of the chair, and are connected transversely by two screwbolts :1nd nuts, and nre secured to the rails and the; sill of' the track by four spikes, two on each side, passing through both-plates and the flange orjbase of the rails, as nereinnt'ter more particularly described.

The tongue b fits in the recess so as to be flush at bottom and top with the bed-platea, and rests upon shoulders, c c, at the sides thereof. Both plates have their sides made thick, and the insides are turned over to form anges, i d, which lie upon the upper side of the base of' the rails A A, whenthe two platos are connected and drawn together' by two transverse bolts, e e. The rails and chnir-plntes are spiked down to the sill together by four spikesfg g, two on each side, that poss down through holes inthe flanges d d, and the sides jof the tongue b, on the plate B; and also interlock in recesses cut in the edge'of the base of each rail, and in the shnulderscl c of the recess in the plate B, thus securing all the ports together firmly.

Having described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The plate in combination with the plate B" with the tongue 1),'fitted i`n a. recess in the bed a, constructed and secured with screw-bolts and spikes, as herein described.
