FRANK O. CARLSON AND BRIGHT J. I-IAALAND, OF VALLEY CITY, NORTII DAKOTA. 1
CLOTH-CLEANING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part f LetterSrPatent No. 704,615, dated July 15, 1902.
Application filed November 12,1900. Serial No. 36,255. (No model.)
To all wtowt it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK O. CARLSON and BRIGHT J. HAALAND, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Valley City, in the county of Barnes and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cloth-Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the aclo companying drawings.
This invention relates to clothes-cleaners; and it has for its object to provide novel means for applying a cleaning agent to the clothes, whereby the same may be dis tributed r 5 a-nd rubbed over the surface to be cleaned.
A further object of the invention is to provide a clothes-cleaning brush which will produce a scratching or slightly-abrading action for the purpose ofeffecting removal of 2o grease or dirt which is in the fiber of the garment. K
A further object of the inventionis to provide a clothes-cleaning device in which a combined bristle and cloth surface is in contact 2 5 with the material to be cleaned.
Finally the object of the invention is to produce a cloth-cleaning device which will possess advantages in points of simplicity, efficiency, and proving at the same time comparatively inexpensive. Y
Vith the above and other objects in View the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully 3 5 set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forniing a partl of this specification, wherein like characters denote corresponding 4o parts in the several views, and in which- Figure l is a view in perspective of a clothcleaning device embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view centrally of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a view of a fragment of material differ-ing from that shown in Figs. l and 2 of 45 which the device may be formed.
In thedrawings the cap 2 is attached to the body by a ring 2Q which is threaded, and the threads being embedded in the surface of the body the parts are held together and form a 5o head for the roll.
In Figs. l and 2 is illustrated the construction of a device from material in common use, this comprising a cloth l, preferably wool and hair-cloth 3, having their edges coinciding. The cleaning device is formed by wrapping the two cloths in a roll, with the hair-cloth on the inside, until the diameter is approximately two and one-half inches, in which position the roll is securely held. The 6o end of the roll so formed will be found to have a slightly-rough surface, owing to the presence of bristles of the hair-cloth, and the device will be foundwell adapted for applying the cleaning agent.
In Fig. 3 we show a fabric in which the hair b is Woven with the wool at a.
The construction, operation, and advantages Will, it is thought, be understood from the foregoing description, it being noted that 7o changes in the proportions and details of construction may be resorted `to for successfully carrying the invention into practice Without departing from the scope of the claim.
Having thus fully described the invention, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a cloth-cleaning device, hair-cloth and a layer of other fibrous material rolled together with their end edges coinciding, and secured 8o as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK O. CARLSON. B. J. IIAALAND.
