IMPROVEMENT IN JOURNAL-BOX.

Be itknown that we, LEROY M. TAYLOR and W. D. FOWLER, of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented an improved JournehBox; and we dodeelarc the following to beg full, clear, and ex not description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which-- Figure l is an end view of the improved journal-box, showing the upper half thereof thrown up in dotted lines. 1

This invention relates to an improvement on the construction of journal-boxes for all kinds of shafting which it may be desirable to remove from their hearings for cleaning and other purposes.

The invention consists in providingnjournal-box the two parts of which are hinged together, with a. turnbutton nndlatching deviceforsecurely holding the free end of the cup down in place, and at the some time admit ting of the ready unlocking of said cnp'nt pleasure, as will he hereinafter described.

This base A is also constructed with bolt-holes 6.6 through it for .re'ceiving'the headed bolts 0 that secure it down firmly in place upon a beam orother object, as shown in fig. 1'; also, with n. fiat-head pin, (2, which stnnds perpendicularly to the plane of the hose A, and is allowed to turn freely. The space between the lower edges of the said pin and the'uppet' face of the base-piece A- is very slightly greater than the thickness of the upper section or cap of't'he box, The cap 13 is pivoted at one end to the ears a a of this base-section A by means of the transverse pin e, and'et the other end a. notch or groove,f; is made of sufiicient width and length to receive the head and shank of tho turning-pin d, and allow this pin to be turned uroundso as to bring its head at right. angles to. the length of the hex, as shown in fig. 3, or to be turned so as to be broiiglit into line with the slot, as indicated in dotted lines, fig. 2. What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The munner herein described of constructing the box A B in two halves, with the hinge a e, and the turningpin d, and locking devices 9- ii, the said construction admitting of a ready removal of the shaft, as well as giving ready access thereto, allus set forth.
