Be it known that we,'WILLIAM D. RENNIE and S'rEPHn G. VAN DERBEEK, residing in the village of Hackensack, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new Golf-Register, of which the following is aspecification. I

Our invention relates to those devices designed for registering the number of plays in games, and particularly in reference to golf; and the objects of our invention are, first, to obtain a small device that can be conveniently carried and easily operated to make an accurate score of the play; second, to provide a device in which the score-card may be removed in orderto preserve the same for reference and comparison, and, third, to provide a device which will show on a dial at the end of the game the detailed score of the play between each hole.

We have illustrated our invention by the following drawings, in which like letters refer to like parts throughout.

Figure 1 is a plan view of our device; Fig. 2, a rear view with back partly removed; Fig. 3, a sectional view taken on line w 00. Fig. 4 is a plan of the dial. Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view of the punch.

A is a circular metal case about the size of a watch, provided with a hinged cover a. and front of glass or other transparent material and fastened with a catch 0. In the bottom of the case is the shaft 03, upon which the toothed disk or wheel a revolves. (1, is kept in position by the head a which is screwed to the top of the shaft a Underneath the disk 01, and on the shaft a is the lever a, which swings on the shaft (1 and extends through the slot a in the top of case A. This slot 0. is. long enough to permit a lateral movement of the lever a sufficient to move the disk a one tooth. Connected with the lever a is the pawl a operating against the teeth of the disk (1 The spring 0. keeps the lever seated normally against one side of the slot a, and the spring 0. regulates the movement of the disk at. Extending across the top of the disk on and mounted at the bottom of the cover a is the spring-lever a with the end a fixed to the case and the end a free. At the center of the lever a is a cap a which is adapted to fit over the head (i At the free end of the lever is mounted a punch a adapted to cooperate with the die a in the shoulder a mounted in the case A, the whole forming a mechanism to perforate the dial B, as hereinafter described. The lover a is made of spring metal and in its normal position rests against the top of the slot at on the cover a, with the punch a free of the lower '60 part of the die a. The shoulder at has a slot of, which crosses the die a. The disk a has an annular channel a near its periphery, which moves directly underneath the die a. Disk'o. is also provided with the pins a a, to hold the dial B in place, and the lever a has an indicator a". The dial B is a printed dial of paper or other suitable material, with spaces and numbers corresponding to the teeth of the disk a and the holes at b b and 12 The case is provided with a pin and catch a in order to attach the device to the clothing, if necessary.

The operation of our device is as follows: The hinged cover a is raised, and with it the 7 5 lever a The dial B is placed on the disk a and in the slot a, the holes I) I) over the pins a 0L and the hole 79 over the head a and the dial adjusted by revolving the same until the mark at number 65 is directly underneath 8c the indicator a. The cover is closed and caught. The cap 03 of the lover a aids in holding the dial in place when the cover is closed. 7 The device is now ready for use, and the game begins. At every stroke the player presses the lever o to the side as far as it will go, and the movement of the lever a actuates the pawl or and engages a tooth of the disk a and moves the disk one space. This is repeated at each stroke. Then the player 0 reaches a hole, he presses the levera down. The punch a moving in the died, punches a hole in the paper dial B, and the score of the hole is thus recorded. The pressure is released, and the lever resumes its normal position. The operation is also repeated at each hole. When the game is finished, the total score of strokes will be readily ascertained by looking at the dial. The dial is then removed and can be kept for record of the play. It is evident that a number of dials may be placed on the disk at the same time and two or more records of the play made at the same time. A new dial is placed upon the disk, and the device is ready for reuse.

If desired, the device can attached to the clothing the back of the case.

What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is'

1. In a register, the combination of a detachable dial, mounted on a revoluble disk, provided with teeth on its circumference, a leverand pawl,engaging said teeth and means for perforating said dial to make a record thereon.

2. In a register, the combination of a detachable dial mounted on a revoluble disk provided with teeth on its circumference, a lever and pawl engaging the teeth of said disk, a punch consisting of a spring-lever, a die and matrix, and a case in which the Whole is mounted.

3. In a register, the combination of a debe conveniently by use of the pin on tachable dial mounted on a revoluble disk provided with teeth on its circumference, a lever and pawl engaging the teeth of said disk, a punch consisting of a spring-lever, adie and matrix, and a case in which the whole is mounted, and a pin and catch attached to the back of said case, substantially as described.

4. In a register, the combination of a case in which is mounted a revoluble disk, with teeth upon its periphery, a lever and pawl engaging the said teeth, said lever extending through and beyond the case, a punch oper ated by a lever upon the free end of which is mounted a die, and said lever extending through and beyond the case, a matrix and slot, and a detachable dial adapted to be placed on the disk and inserted in the slot of the matrix, substantially as described.
