'e'ls: Stimuli ritirati tu in tlgtsc rttcts glzitoit zum uniting nrt at the samt.
'ro ALL wHon IT Mar coNonRN:
Be it known thatI, SMITH Fnnnrs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a. new and improved Fire-Escape Blinder for Horses and Cattle; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, andexoct description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, refer- 'enco being` had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in Which- Figure l represents a side elevation of my improved blinder, showing it attached to a horses hea-d.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the'fastening thereof; and
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectionl view of the whole apparatus, the plane of sect-ions being indicated by the line af, iig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a device which is to be used to blind horses and cattle, in v case of fire, to facilitate their removal to a place of safety.
rl`he invention consiste in the use of a cap, which, when laid on the horses head, covers the eyes, and thus permits that he be led out of danger in case of tire. This cap is so arranged that it can be placed at once on the aninials head, and be fastened thereto by means of hooks land straps, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
A represents a cap, made of leather or any other suitable material, and of such shape that it fits closely over the eyes of a horse or'other animal. It is provided with India-rubber or other flexible straps a a, which pass through loops arranged et the top and bottom of the cap, as shown. The ends of the straps a a may be buckled or otherwise attached to straps e, which are secured to metal bars B` and C, of which the former is provided with hooks (l d, which tit over the bar C, as'shown in figs. 2 and 3. 'lhe rubber straps ct are for the purpose of holding the cap firmly on the animals head, and for allowing it to fit over heads of dierent sizes.
It will be noticed, from the drawing, that the upper and lower halves of this device are exactly alike, so
vthat it does not make any dierenee which side is up; the cap will it in either ease. The quick application,
in case of fire, of the blinder; is thus greatly facilitated, as it would require much valuable time to get the cap into the right position, if such were necessary.
Small projections ff are secured to the rubber straps a, inside of the leather loops b, so that when the .straps et are drawn tight, the projeetionsfalso draw the cap A well against the animalshead, and serve te completely prevent the saine 'from seeing the light.
Ielaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of' manufacture, a fire-,blinder for horses and cattle, constructed as described, consisting of the cap A, to be placed over the eyes and the space between the eyes, having the elastic strips a a, connected by loops Zi, the metal bars B C, hooks (Z CZ, and strips e, substantially as described, for thc'lpnrpose specied.
v l Sh'll'lll FERRS.
