For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and drawings hereto attached.

While the essential-and characteristic features of the invention are necessarily susceptible of modification, still thepreferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a headrest embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the frame provided with the roller, forming supports for the endless band. Fig. 4 is a section on the line X X of Fig. 5. Fig. 5 is a rear view. Fig. 6 is a central longitudinal section of a roller, showing its mountlngs.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The essential feature of the invention. is the frame forming a support for the rollers and the mountings. This frame is of yoke form and comprises parallel arms l, a connecting-piece 2, and end loops 3, joining the parts l and 2. The arms 1 constitute spindles for rollers 4, and the loops 3 enable the part 2 to be in a higher plane than the lower edge of the endless band 5, which is of advantage from a standpoint of appearance and neatness of construction. This frame is preferably constructed of a light rod or stout wire possessing spring action to maintain the shape of the frame With a minimum amount ofmetal. The connecting-piece 2 is of arched form, which is best adapted to canse the arms vor spindles 1 to spring outward and automatically take up any expansionpof the endlessv band 5 due to stretching, whereby a tension is maintained thereon at all times. A roller 4 is mounted upon each arm or spindle'l and tapers from its middle toward each end, this form beingbest adapted tofhold the band 5 v in place without requiring flanges or outwardly-eXtending partsat the extremities of 'the rollers. The rollers are clothed or covered With soft material 6, of rubber, felt, or

textile, so as toafforda soft support fort-he portion of the head or face coming in contact `therewith. The ends of they rollers are recessed, the lower recess receiving av metal washer 7 and the upper recess receiving the fastening 8, by means of which-the rollers are held in place upon the parts l. A washer 9 is secured to the lower end of each arm l and forms a support for the roller, the Wear being taken up by the washers 7 and 9. is secured to the upper end of each roller and forms a cap therefor and closes the recess in which the fastening 8 is located. The fastening Sis asplit spring-ring, which is sprung into a groove ll, encircling the upper end portion of the part 1, said split ring overlapping the recessed part to prevent vertical displacement of the roller.

The endless band 5 may be of plush,leather, fabric, or other flexible material and vis supported upon the rol1ers'4 and is of a length to compress the arms l when in place, so that the tendency of the arms 1 to resume a normal position will hold the parts of the band under tension and automatically take up any expansion thereof due to stretching within certain limits. The outer or rear portiou of the band is provided with a loop l2 for convenience of moving the band upon the rollers, so as to turn the head from one 4side to `the other or tothe desired position. The front part of the band is intended to vreceive the head, which rests thereon between the rollers. The frame, with its adju nctive parts, is adapted to be raised and lowered and to be turned to any angular position to suit the comfort of the person using the head-rest.

A washer 10 g IOT) The vertical adjustment to adapt the elevation of the head-rest to persons of different height is accomplished in the usual manner, and for this purpose the frame is attached to a stem or bar 13, having ratchet-teeth 14: to coperate with the pawl or securing means (not shown) commonly applied to a barbers or other chair. The clamp device is applied to the upper end of the bar 13 for securing the frame when turned to the desired position, and this clamp device may be of any construction admitting of the attainment of the desired end. As shown, a plate 15 is attached to the upper end of the bar 13, and an end portion is folded to provide an eye 16, in Which is fitted the connecting or horizontal portion 2 of the frame. A bolt 17 and clampnut 1S connect the folded end portion of the plate 15 with the main portion thereof and serve to contract the eye 16, so as to firmly and securely grip the part 2 and hold the frame in the required angular position.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. In a head-rest, a frame provided With parallel arms, forming spindles, and a connecting-piece capable of yielding so as to press the spindles apart, rollers mounted on said spindles, and an endless band supported `by the rollers and held under tension by the spring action of the aforesaid frame due to compression of the spindles by the said band, substantially as set forth.

2. In a head-rest, a frame comprising parallel spindles, a connecting-piece, and intermediate loops joining the connecting-piece with the respective spindles, rollers mounted upon the said spindles, and an endless band supported by the rollers, substantially as set forth.
