Description

@Hitch tttt utnt @ffice EZRA OGLE, OF FAIRFIELD, MICHIGAN.

IMPROVED BUCKLE.
@Le Segnale return to' in tlgcsc fighters liittnt tint milking pint ui tigt time.
TO ALL WlIOMtIT MAY CONCERN:
Bc-it known that I,EzP.'A COLE, of Fairfield, in the county of Lenawee, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
4and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference'- .bcing had to the accompanying' drawings, forming part of this specification.
The present invention relates to a new and improved buckle for harness-tugs or traces.
In buckles for harness-tege or traces it is most essential that they should be so constructed as to secure the following results:
First. A perfectly straight drawing of the tug.
Second. A drawing, both by the tongue and by .the frame to the buckle, in so punching the tug that the hole therein cannot bulge and tear out.
Third. Releasingthe pinching ofthe buckle and frame upon the tug when the drawing of the tug stops; and
Fourth. An easy adjustment of the bucklctongue from one hole to another in the tug.
By my improved buckle all of the above results are attained, and in a most satisfactory and perfect manner, as will be obvious from the following detail description of t-he same, in which- Figure lis a plan or top view of a buckle made according to the present invention.
Figure 2, a central longitudinal sectioirtaken in the plane of the line x x, iig. 1.
Figure 3, a plan er top view of a buckle, showing a modification of thatv illustrated in figs. 1 and 2; and
Figure 4 a central longitudinal section taken in the plane of the line y y, g. 3.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A, in the drawings, representsl't-he frame tothe buckle. This buckle-frame A, at one end, has a loep, Il, and at the other plate, C, having upon its under side a centre or tongue-pin, D, hy which the buckle is engaged with the trace or tugstrap, that passing forward under such plate, as shown by red lines in the drawings, and from thence under the end loop I3 to and through the ordinary loop to a haine-tug, that, by end pins F of a yoke or bail E, is hung to and upon the side pieces Gr of the buckle at the rounded portions II o` the same. In figs. 3 and 4 I represent the buckle-frame, consistingr of a plate, J, that, at one end, has extensionarms terminating andjoincd together by a cross-bar, K. L, a tongue or pin in outside of plate J, with which pin the tug is engaged by one of its holes. 'lhe tug, shown by red lines, lies on the plate J under the-crossbar K, :1nd extends forward into the loop of 'the hau1estrap, shown by blue lines, which llame-strap is hung to the cross-piece M of a frame, N. This frzune ll has side pieces O, curved or bent in the direction of their length, which side pieces O extend up through the slots Pfin the plate J, and to their out-er ends, across from one to the other, is secured a plate, Q, having at or near its end R a tongue er pin, S, which, when the plates I and Q aie in the relative position shown in -the drawings, is at e distance from the pin ot' the buckle corresponding to, or nearly so, the distance between the holes in the trace or tug-strap.
From the above description, and by un inspection of the drawings, it is plain to be seen and understood that all the points hereinbefore enumerated are secured, and in a most simple, cheap, and practical manner.
Having thus described iny invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The buckleconstructed ns described, consisting of the curved fra-inc A, having at one end the plate C, provided with n downward projection or lug'` I), in combination with the bail E, whose pins I" rest and slide upon the upper edges o? the curved traine A, :is herein described, as and for thc purpose specified.
