GEORGE WATKINS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK. Letters Patent No. 69,054, dated September 17, 1867.
IMPROVED DEVICE FOR MIXING LIQUIDS.
6th: strain ttittttil to in that Etrtters tartan amt mating part at the smut.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Be it known that I, GEORGE WATKINs, of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented a new and improved Device for Mixing Fluid; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Thisinvention relates to a new and improved device for mixing and agitating fluids; and itconsist-s in a novel means employed for operating the revolving heaters, whereby the latter have two motions, a rotary one on their own axis, and another in a circle around the tub or receptacle in which the fluid to be mixed is placed. The accompanying drawing represents an elevation of my invcntion, thc fluid receptacle being shown in section.
A represents an upright frame, which is composed of the uprights ([(l, attached to a suitable base, I), and connected by cross-bars c c. On the base b the receptacle B, in which the fluid to be mixed or agitated is placed, is secured by any suitable catches orfastcnings. This receptacle is of cylindrical form, and within it the two heaters O C work. These heaters may be of rectangular form, and they have central shafts or arbors d d, at their uppcr ends, which pass loosely through two yolgcs D D, on the lower part of a vcrt-icalshaft, E, which has its hearings in the cross-bal's 1: c of the frame A, the shaft having a collar, e, upon itwhich rests on the lower crossbar c, as is clearly shown in the drawing. On the upper end of the shaft or arbor (Z of each heater, there is firmly keyed a pinion, F, and those two pinions gear into a fixed wheel, G, which is firmly secured to the under side of the lower cross-bane. This lower cross-bar e is not framed into the uprights u (1, but is formed with tenons at its ends to fit into grooves in the inner surfaces of a a, so that said bar and cn:'.
'sequently the shaft E and boaters C may be raised when desired, and the heaters elevated above the fluid receptacle B, as shown in red in the drawing, to admit of the receptacle being readily removed whenever necessary. It will be seen from the above description that when the shaft E is rotated, the heaters C C will rotate within the receptacle B, in a circle concentric therewith, and each beater will also, on account of the gearing described, rotate independently on its own axis. The fluid therefore within the receptacle B will be thoroughly mixed and agitated.
Thisinvention is at present used for the mixing of m'nciiagc. It operates well, performing its work rapidly and in a perfect manner; It may he used advantageously in all cases where fluids arc to be mixed and agitated. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The adjustable bcatcrs O Gconncctcd with the shaft E, and suspended from the adj ustablc cross-bar c, all constructed, arranged, and operating as herein shown and described. A
' i GEORGE WATKINS.
