Description

N.PET'ERS. FNOTU-LITHOGRAPHER WASHINGTON D C l @sich mes jgstw fr.
-CLEM-ENS WEAV'ERQOF EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent 1Y0. 69,730, dated October 8, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT 1N rAUonTs.
TO ALL WHOM' IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, CLEMENS WEAYEIWO' Easton, in the county oi`,Northampton, and in the State of Penn Sylvania, have inventedccrtain new and useful improvements in Faucets; and do hereby declare that the foly lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof' reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
to the letters of referenceuiarked thereon.
Figure 1 is a section view of my faucet. Figure?. is a side elevation of the plunger to which the sleeve is attached. Letter Arepresents the shank' of my faucetwhich is intended to be'thrust into the easks or hydrants, Letter B represents a sleeve which is screwed into the'top of the faucet, (as shown in iig. 1,) and acts as a guide and support. to the plunger C. This sleeve-is provided with' a chamber upon its inne-r surface forI the purpose 'of receiving the coiled spring D. Extendingvdowuwards throughthe sleeve B is the plunger C, by which the llow of,water or other liquids,is eontrolled.. Upon the bottom of this plunger is placed the ground valve E7 which its air and water-tight in acorresponding recess in the body of the faucet, (as shown in iig. 1,) `just at the peint where the liquid makes itsescape. 'Encrcling the plunger C is the polled spring D, for the purpose of holding the valve tightly in its place. In'order to prevent the liquid-from escapingthrough the top of the faucet a number-of washers, F, which may consist of metal, rubber, or any suitable substance, is placed watertight around .the'plunger. These washers rest upon a. shoulder inthe faucet to prevent them from descending too low Clown, and effectually prevent the water from rising above a certain point.
When itis vdesired to let the liquid 'low out of the cgisks, it is only necessary to raise the plunger C, which displaces'the valve E, and the liquid flows freely out, When itl is desiredto shut the stream olf, the plunger is let go, when thc coiledspring D forces the valve down into its place, and the llow is. effectually cheeked. This faucet may be applied to either casks which contain beer, wine, &c., or to common water-hydrants.
What I -clain as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
' The plunger C, sleeve '13,spring' D, and valve E arranged in the faucet, constructed in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
' In testirnony that I claixn the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of July, 1867.
