Be it known that 1, BRONSON RUMsnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Gun and Cartridge Carrier; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in combined gun and cartridge carriers for hunters use, its object being to provide a device to be suspended over the shoulders by means of which the arm of the hunter maybe relieved of the weight of the gun and the cartridge may be easy of access when needed.

To these ends my invention consists of a hook, two straps of unequal length attached to the hook and adapted when joined to form the suspending device for the hook, loops attached to the suspending-straps, a cartridgecarrier with inclined ends, and a nest of radially-arranged pockets and loops at each end of the cartridge-carrier adapted for removable attachment to the loops on the suspending-straps.

My invention further consists of certain details of construction, all of which will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved device complete. Fig. 2 is a detail View of the wire frame of the hook, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the cartridge-carrier.

Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the hook in which the gun is carried is formed as follows: An elongated loop is first made of stiff wire and then bent over to form the rear portion 1 and the front portion 2. (See Fig. 2.) The retaining-wire 3 is then stretched across the rear portion 1, near its upper end or just above its widest portion, so as to prevent it from being forced down. The frame thus constructed is inclosed in a covering t, of leather or other flexible material, which is Serial No. 80,516. (No model.)

secured to and envelops the retaining-wire 3 and the entire bent loop, with the exception of the upper portion 5 of the rear of the hook.

The suspending device for the hook consists of the long strap 6, with perforated end '7, and the short strap 8, provided with the buckle 9. The lower ends of these straps are loosely looped around the uncovered end 5 of the hook. Upon the straps 6 and 8 are secured the loops 10.

The cartridge-carrier is constructed as follows: ll is a strip of leather or other suitable material with inclined ends 12 12, corresponding in direction with the converging ends of the suspending- straps 6 and 8, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Upon the four corners of the strip 11 are securedthe loops 13, adapted for adjustable and removable engagement with the loops 10 upon the suspending- straps 6 and 8. A series of pockets 14 are radially arranged upon the strip 11 for holding the cartridges. This arrangement is rendered necessary by reason of the inclined ends 12 12. In use the long strap is passed over one shoulder of the hunter and secured to the buckle on the short strap, so as to adjust the carrying-hook to the proper height. The cartridge-carrier is then adjusted in proper position by means of the loops 10 and 13 and proper securing devices 15, such as straps or other analogous devices.

The carrying-hook may rest in front or at one side of the hunter, as desired, and the central section of the gun rests in the flat hook, being steadied by either hand of the hunter. In this manner the arm is relieved of the weight of the gun, which can instantly be removed from its carrier for use.

The cartridges, by reason of their handy position, are easy of access, and the entire device is lighter, stronger, and exceedingly easy of manipulation.

I claim- 1. A combined gun and cartridge carrier consisting of a hook, two straps of unequal length attached to the hook and adapted when joined to form the suspending device for the hook,loops attached to the suspending-straps, a cartridge-carrier with inclined ends and a nest of radially-arranged pockets and loops at each end of the cartridge-carrier adapted for removable attachment to the loops on the suspending-straps.

2. A combined gun and cartridge carrier consisting of a frame constructed of stiff wire formed into an elongated loop bent over upon itself to form a fiat hook, a covering of leather or other flexible material which envelops the entire bent loop with the exception of the upper portion of one of its ends, two straps of unequal length attached to the uncovered end of the hook-frame and adapted when joined to form the suspending device for the hook, and a cartridge-carrier with inclined ends adapted for adjustable and removable engagement with the suspending-straps.

3. A combined gun and cartridge carrier consisting of a frame constructed of stifi wire formed into an elongated loop bent over upon itself to form a Hat hook, a covering of leather or other flexible material which envelops the entire bent loop with the exception of the upper portion of one of its ends, two straps of unequal length attached to the uncovered end of the hook-frame and adapted when joined to form the suspending device for the hook, loops attached to the suspending-straps, a cartridge-carrier with inclined ends and a nest of radially-arranged pockets and loops at each end of the cartridge-carrier adapted for removable attachment to the loops of the suspending-straps.

4. In a combined gun and cartridge carrier, the combination with a frame constructed of stiff wire formed into an elongated loop bent over upon itself to form a flat hook, and a covering of leather or other flexible material, which envelops the entire bent loop, with the exception of the upper portion of one of its sides, of two straps of unequal length attached to the uncovered end of the hook-frame and adapted when joined to form the suspending device for the flat hook.

5. In a combined gun and cartridge carrier, the combination with a frame constructed of stiff Wire formed into an elongated loop bent over upon itself to form a flat hook, a covering of leather or other flexible material, which envelops the entire bent loop, with the exception of the upper portion of one of its ends, and a retaining wire for the covering, stretched across the frame just above its uncovered end, of two straps of unequal length attached to the uncovered end of the hookframe and adapted when joined to form the suspending device for theflat hook.
