WHIFFLETREE-CLIP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 694,254, dated February 25, 1902.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JASPER CURRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at and whose post-office address is Buffalo, in the county of Leon and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Whiffletree- Clips, of which the followingis a specification.

This invention relates to whifiletree-clips; and the primary object thereof is to provide an inexpensive, durable, and efficient clip which may be easily applied to a singletree or doubletree, and, further, to dispense with the lap-link now in common use.

The peculiar construction of the device will be clearly described hereinafter, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and claimed.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a clip constructed in accordance with my invention, a portion of the whiftletree being illustrated to show the application. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same.

Referring now to the drawings by numerals of reference, 1 designates a circular and split band having lugs 2 and 3 at its respective edges, which adapt it to be engaged by a bolt 4, whereby said band may be securely fastened to the end of a singletree. From the front side of the band 1 projects an integral U shaped loop 5, having a perforation in which is loosely pivoted a hook 6, provided with'a head 7 to limit the outward movement of said hook. it may turn readily to provide for the vibration of the trace or draft-harness.

It willbe noted that the band 1 is constructed, preferably, of spring metal and may be applied to a plow-clevis or the end of the Whiffletree through the medium of the bolt 4 and may be readily removed therefrom.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A whiffletree-hook comprising a split band formed integral with perforated lugs at its rear edges and with an U-shaped loop at its front, a bolt connecting the lugs, and a hook pivoted in the loop and having a retaininghead.
