SUSPENDEB AND- GARMENT CLAMP,
(Application filed Jul 26,1901.
(No Model.) 7
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEON LEMOS, CF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
SUSPENDER AND GARMENT CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 694,064, dated February 25', 1902.
Application flied July 26, 1901.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEON LEMOS, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Suspender and Garment Clamps; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to a garment-supporter; and it consists of the parts and the constructions and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
My invention also comprises details of construction which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view showing clamp opened. Fig. 2 shows it closed and the goods engaged thereby.
For the purpose of supporting garments such as trousers suspenders are employed passing over the shoulders of the wearer, and these are usually connected with the upper edge or band of the trousers by buttons, which often become detached and cause considerable annoyance and trouble.
It is the object of my invention to provide a device by which the suspenders and trousers may be connected without the use of buttons.
As shown in the drawings, Aand B are two plates made of metal of suflicient stiffness, and these plates are pivoted together by a pin passing through them, as at 2. The plates are separated fromeach other a sufficient distance by means of a disk or washer 3, fitted between the two and through which, as well as the plates, the rivet 2 passes. The lower ends of the plates are corrugated transversely, as shown at 4, the corrugations being bent al ternately in and out, so as to coincide with each other when the plates are in their closed position. The lower edge of the plate A is bent inward toward the plate B, and the lower edge of the plate Bis likewise bent toward its companion and is designed to enter the lowermost of the corrugations of the plate A, and thereby compress the fabric, as shown in Fig. 2.
The band or upper part of the trousers or other material to be secured is attached as fol- Serial No- 69,756. (No model.)
lows: The plateB being turned aboutits pivot so its corrugations are clear of those upon the plate A, the band or part to be secured is laid against the corrugations 4 of the plate A, and the plate B is then turned about the pivot-pin until its corrugations engage the material, which is thus clamped between the two in a wavy line following the concavity of the corrugations. The lower edge 6 of plate B presses the goods firmly into the lower corrugation of the plate A, and the lower edge of plate A projects beyond the lower edge of plate B, as shown at 5, thus producing a sharp turn of the material, which is thus drawn approximately at right angles with these clamping edges, and thus by producing a pull practically at right angles with the edges preventin g any. pull in the direct line where the goods are held between the corrugations and preventing their being pulled from the clamps.
The upper part of the plate A has-an opening or space 7 of any suitable or desirable form for the adjustment of the suspending device, and the upper part of B is formed of a lever portion and bent into a hook or other suitable form, as shown at 8, to make it convenient for turning about the pivot.
9 is a stop projecting from plate A and limiting the movement of the plates in relation to each other in swinging around the pivotpin.
The device forms a strong and serviceable clamp and avoids the necessity of the use of buttons.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A suspender and garment clasp including parallel spaced plates pivotally united between opposite ends, one of said plates having, atone side of the pivot connection, means for the attachment of a suspender and also having a stop to limit the swinging movement plates and washer, said plates having portions at one side of the pivot-pin corrugated transversely and the lower edges of the plates turned inwardly and overlapping to compress the fabric, one of said plates having means for the attachment of a Suspender and a stop to limit the swinging movement of the other plate, said other plate having a lever portion of hook form above the pivot-pin whereby the plate may be turned about the pivotal con- 16 neetion.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
