IIENRY RAYMOND SMITl-l, OF STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT.
PAPER-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 682,962, dated September 1'7, 1901.
Application filed March 30, 1901. Serial No.53j616. (No model.)
T0 on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY RAYMOND SMITH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Stamford, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Paper-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a device adapted particularly for holding paper on telephoneboxes and like inclined surfaces.
This specification is a specific description of two forms of the invention, While the claim is a definition of the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, which represents a perspective view of the in vention.
a indicates the inclined ledge or table of the telephone.
The paper holder comprises a clamp b, adapted to engage with the ledge a and having a set-screw o, by which the clamp may be fastened rigidly thereto. Sustained on the clamp and projecting over the ledge is an arm (1, which projects approximately horizontally over the ledge and which carries slidably two pins e, these pins extending vertically and having a presser-bar f attached to their-lower ends. Springs g press between the arm d and bar f, so that the bar is normally held down, and when the pad of paper (indicated at h) is placed under the bar f the paper will be held securely in position. The barf is provided with a finger-bail i, which is adapted. to be engaged by ones fingers, so as to facilitate raising the bar. Now it will be seen that the paper may be readily placed in and displaced from position by raising the bar f and allowing it then to engage the paper by the action of the spring 9.
This device will hold a block or pad of paper securely and enable one conveniently to write on the paper without necessitating holding the same. e 45 Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-'- A paper-holder for telephone-boxes and the like, comprising a clamp adapted to engage the edge of the ledge or top of the box and extending upward therefrom, a horizontallydisposed arm carried by the clamp and projecting over the top of the box, pins carried in the arm and slidable vertically toward and from the box, a presser-bar carried by the pins at their lower ends, and a spring acting to hold the presser-bar downward.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 60 two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY RAYMOND SMITH.
