IMPROVED REFRIGERATOR.
fililgt fitlgtimli norm in in time Eirtttts new kmh mailing part nttlgttznnt.
Be it known that I, JOHN DE Wrrr WEMPLE, of the city of Albany, county of Albany, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Refrigerators; and I declare the following specifications,
I with the drawings forming a part thereof, to be a full and complete description of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view.
Figure 2 is a sectional front view.
Figure 3 is a sectional side view.
A is the box or chest, made in the usual manner; D D are the doors; R R are racks for the, reception of berries, meats, 850.; W is the reservoir, with its cover 0, and filter at H, with faucet F in front for drawing water. I do not confine myself to any particular shape or material in its construction, as theymay be either square or round, and of enamelled iron or earthenware. It will be seen that the chest is constructed with two apartments, one above the other. In the upper one, at I, is placed the ice'; the base being a trough, with a space in the rear side for the passage of the cold air downward into the lower apartment. F, in the side, is a faucet for letting out the water caused by the melting of the ice. Below this baseor'trough is a small trough, O, for the purpose ofv receiving the water that condenses above. The water in this has its exit at X, and drops in the tumbler below. v 7
The arrangement is as follows: The ice being placed in the trough I, cools the air, which by its increased weight immediately flows down the passageway E, thus cooling the apartment below as thoroughly as above. This ice is at the same time employed for cooling the water in the reservoir which filters at H, being in close contact with it, and cold water is drawn at F in front, thus saving an expense and disadvantage that would otherwise occur, and if not employed in combination with each other.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I The combination and arrangement of reservoir W, filter H, ice-chest I, trough O, and faucet F, so and for the purpose specified. i
JOHN DE W. WEMPLE.
