Letters Patent No. 68,159, dated August 27, 1867.
IMPROVED MEDICAL couronnn.
@Llgt 5dgzlmle' March it it tins: Ztttttrt smut nut mating part of it time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, O. W. BLANGHARD, of Delavan, in the county of Walvvorth, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and improved MedicalCompound; and I do herebydcclarc that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to fully understand and make use of the same. I
The present invention relates to a medical compound especially. intended for the relief and cure of consumption, for which, by experience, it has been found to be most beneficial, particularly bronchial and tubercular consumption.-
This compound is made of the following ingredients mixed together in and about the proportions herein below stated, viz v I llforphiw sulphas, onc drachm; Aqua jJlt7'fil-, f0\11t00l1 drachms; olcohol, two drachms; Acz'dum sulphuric-um, sixty drops; Acidumhydrocyanicum, sixty-five drops; tincture lupulin, sixty drops.
The morphine is first put into a glass bottle with the water and the alcohol, when, after a few minutes, and having shaken it lightly,- add the sulphuric acid, which forces a solution of the morphine. After such dissolution add the hydrocyanic acid, and then the tincture of lnpulin, shaking it well, when it is ready for use.
In administering or taking the medicine produced by the above ingredients, and mixed together in and about the proportions stated, for adults three drops in water should be taken from two to three times every twenty-four hours. The action of thecompound upon the human system is to control the irritation or tickling which causes the patient to cough, thereby removing one of the principal reasons for the continuance of such coughing. The compound is a powerful alterative, changing the diseased action of the parts to a normal condition. It also acts as a tonic atthe same time, imparting strength to the patient as it removes the cough.
This medicine may be employed for the relief andcureot' other diseases besides coughs and diseases of the lungs, as, for instance, for pains in the head or teeth, or cramps and convulsions, neuralgia affections, and for tic-doulonreux.
I am aware that most of' the ingredients employed in' my improved medical compound have been used before, but the combination of the several ingredients named, and in the manner described, has never before been effected, the result being a sulpho-hydrocyanatc of morphine, the most convenient form .for use.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent r The medical compound, made of the ingredients and mixed together in or about the proportions substantially as and for the purpose described.
0. W. BLANGHARD.
