Nrrnn STATES JOHN V. DILLE, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY G. HELFINGER, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED DUST-PAN AND BROOM-HOLDER,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 681,303, dated August 27, 1901.
Application filed March 7, 1899.
To all whom, it may c0ncern':
Be it known that I, JOHN V. DILLE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Combined Dust-Pan and Broom-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a certain new and useful combined dust-pan and broom-holder in which a dust=pan as an article of universal household use is provided With a holder, so that when the dust-pan is hung up the broom may be hung thereon, and thus be at all times conveniently at hand with the dustpan for use; and my invention consists in certain features of novelty hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l represents an elevation of my combined dust-pan and broom holder in which the holder is formed of a sheet of metal which may be formed integral with the body of the dustpan. This view shows also a broom carried in the holder. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of my combined dust-pan and broomholder in which the dust-pan is partially covered and is provided with a bail and handle for lifting the same from the floor.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout both views.
1 represents a dust-pan of ordinary and usual construction, having the usual handle 2 and provided with a hole 3 for hanging the same upon a nail in the wall or casing.
4 represents a plate or sheet of metal formed integrally with the body of the dust-pan and provided with the wings 5, which are bent in such shape as to form a holder for the broom, as shown in Fig. 1.
Among the numerous advantages of my combined dust-pan and broom-holder may be mentioned, first, in household economy the dust-pan and broom are inseparable companions, and when the sweeping is done by this arrangement when the dust-pan is hung up Serial No. 708,093. (No model.)
the broom is hung up in its holder and the two are kept conveniently together, and, second, it is recognized that the inverted position is the proper position for the broom when not in use; but in ordinary use when the broom is inverted and leaned against the wall the Wall will be soiled. WVith this device the broom is hung up in its properinverted position and the dust-pan being between the broom and the wall protects the wall and pre vents it being soiled from the broom.
In Fig. 2 is shown my dust-pan and broomholder, in which said dust-pan is provided with a cover 11 over its rear portion, forming a pocket therein and also provided with a bail 12,-extended upward to form a handle 13, the bail being attached to the pan in such relation that when the pan is lifted by said handle the pan will be tilted backward and the dirt and debris thereon thrown back into the pocket formed by the cover 11. In this construction the handle 2 may be omit ted, as the pan may be handled by the wire handle 13. An eye 14: being formed in said handle 13 the pan may be hung up thereby, and I preferably form the bail and handle 13 out of a single wire, forming the eyelet at the outer bend of the wire. 15 represents the broom carried in the holder.
1 thus provide in my combined dust-pan and broom-holder a very convenient and use ful article for household use, the merit and utility of which are apparent upon observation.
Having thus fully described my device, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture a dust-pan and a broom-holder consisting of a flat plate formed integral with and lying above and to the rear of said dust-pan, and inturned lateral wings on said plate to receive and hold the broom, substantially as set forth.
JOHN V. DILLE.
