TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 689,883, dated December 0 Application filed May 7, 1900. Serial No. 15,716. (No model.)
To ctZZ whont it nut/y 0077/0077)..-
Be it known that I, JAMES WV. JACOBS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jeffersonville, in the county of Clark and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in toys, the object being the provision of a toy which can be produced at a very small price and which will prove a never-ending source of am usementand pleasure to all who manipulate the toy.
To attain the desired object, my invention consists of a toy embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, sub stantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my novel toy, and Fig. 2 represents a sectional view thereof.
In the drawings, A designates a suitable base or board, from which rises the hollow or tubular post B, which at its lower portion is provided with the slotor channel C. Also secured upon the base and opposite to said tubular post is the spring-coil D, having its terminal or spring arm E traveling and ar-' ranged in the channel C of the post and extending beyond said post, and when depressed the spring-arm is held down by a suitable handled keeper or latch F. Also attached to the base is a cord or other flexible connection G, to which is attached a ball or head H, said ball or head being adapted to fit in the tubular post and rest upon the depressed springarm of the coil. Rising from the base adjacent to the tubular post is the standard or rod J, havingits upper end formed withabend J, forming an axle for the strip or bird K.
This being the construction of my novel toy, the manner of using or manipulating will be readily apparent, and it will be noted that the spring-arm is depressed and retained in this position by the keeper or latch and the ball or missile is dropped into the tubular post and rests upon the depressed spring-ar1n, and the release of the keeper or latch allows the spring-arm to spring quickly upward and drive the ball or missile and cause it to hit or miss the rotary strip, and in the event of striking the strip it will cause a rapid rotation thereof, the manipulation requiring skill and proving very interesting and amusing.
I claim- The toy herein shown and described, consisting of the horizontally-disposed base, the vertical tubular missile-holder secured to one end of the base and having a slot in its lower end, a coil-spring having one end secured to the other end of said base and having its free end arranged in the slot of the holder, a missile to be placed in the holder and struck by the free end of said spring, a catch to secure the free end of the spring and to release the same when desired, and a target adapted to be struck by the missile.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES IV. JACOBS.
