H a Mimi TM: Norms Pzrzns co mcroumm WASNINGTDN. n. c,
UNITE STATES ABRAHAM STEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MUSTACHE-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 687,285, dated November 26, 1901.
' Application filed August 13, 1901.: Serial No. 71,902. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM STEIN, a citizen of Russia, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mustache-Curlers, of which the following is a full and complete specifica- 'tion, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a clamp device for use as a mustache-curler and which in practice is placed on the ends of the mustache after the latter has been curled by hand and which is designed to remain in this position for a short length of time, so as to crimp and hold the mustache in acurled condition after the clamp has been removed; and with this and other objects in View the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the'same reference characters in each of the views, Figure 1 is a front View of my improved mustache-curler, showing the same in operation and part of the device being shown in section; Fig. 2, a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the device on an enlarged scale; and Fig. 3, a plan view thereof.
In the practice of my invention I provide a device of the class specified which consists of two members a and 6, preferably composed of metal plates and provided with side jaws c and d, respectively,-which are pivoted together at e by means of a pivot-pin passing therethrough. The plate or member ais provided with a backwardly-directed exten sion f and the plate or member I) with a similar backwardly-directed member g, and these members f and 9 form handle or'finger pieces, by which the device is held. The plate or member a is also provided with a forwardlydirected extension, having a'yoke-shaped jaw 72. connected therewith, which opens downward, and the plate or member 2) is provided with a forwardly-directed extension having the bottom front edge 72.
an upwardly-directed jaw 'i, which fits in the yoke-shaped jaw h, and between the jaws h and t' is a space 70.
Wound on the pivot-pin e, by which the separate members a and b are connected, is a strong spiral spring m, one end of which bears on the backwardly-directed portion f of the plate a and the other on the backWardly-directed portion 9 of the plate I), as clearly shown at n and 0, and the object of this construction is to hold the parts of the device in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
W In Fig. 1 of the drawings I have shown the operation of my improved mustache' curler, and in practice the end of the mustache p is curled by hand in the usual manner, as shown at r, and the clamp is opened in the usual manner and the curled end of the mustache is placed between the jaws h and 2', as shown in Fig. 1, which are opened for this purpose and then allowed to close. In this operation of the yoke-shaped jawh and the front edge 2' of the jaw 11 se curely' clamp and hold the curled end of the mustache, and after the device has been left in the position for the desired length of time 7' 5 it is removed and the end of the mustache will remain curled, as will readily be under-' stood.
This device may be made of very light ma terial and is in practice made very small and 8c is well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended and is also comparatively inexpensive.
Having thus fully described my invention, whatI clai'm as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A mustache-curler composed of two piv-a otally-connected spring-operated jaws one of which is yoke-shaped in cross-section and opens in the direction of the other jaw and is 6 adapted to bear thereon, said last-named jaw being provided with an upwardly-directed portion which fits in the yoke-shaped jaw, substantially as shown and described. a
2. A mustache-curler comprising two members pivotally connected and spring-operated,
said members being each provided with a jaw one of which is yoke-shaped and opens in the direction of the other, the other jaw being my invention I have signed my name, inpresprovided with a portion which projects into ence of the subscribing witnesses, this 12th the yoke-shaped jaw, and said members beday of August, 1901. ing provided with portions which project in ABRAHAM STEIN.
5 the direction opposite to that of said jaws, Witnesses:
substantially as shown and described. F. A. STEWART,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as L. R. BAYER.
