Description

@eine ltetta gatwt "ffice CHARLES D. BLAKESLEE, oF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.'

' fait Stlgemlc trftmx in in ilgrst ttttets aitnt mit marking pari-nf 111i siam.
TOALL WI'IOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHARLES D; BLAIIESLEE, of Grand RupidgKent county, Michigan, have invented a new and improved Water-Wheel Gate; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,fan,fl exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference bei-ng had to the-a-)ccoinpanying drawings, formingrpart of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved water-wheel gate, and consists of a curb of a size to correspond with the water-wheel and volume ofwatertobe used, having apentures for theinlet of thewaternpon two cyli'ndrical valves which revolve against eachother, and are automatically operated by a ball-governor. In the accompanying,r drawings# 1 I Figure 'l isa vertical section at line x :l: on the horizontal section, Figure 2, which is taken at line '1/ y of iig. 1,
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A Aare the curb, having` apertures, B, for the admittance'of the water, and C for its conduct to the wheel. D D `are two cylindrical valves or gates, revolving in axes, d cl, the shafts d carrying ,thc cog-wheels E,
gearing :in each o thcr and operated by an ordinary ball-governor connected at c. The cylindrical valves DA revolve against each other, the apertures Gr (of any convenient forno) corresponding with the aperturesB B and C when the valves are open, solid portions D corresponding with said apertures D and C when the valves are closed. The cylinders revolving together against each other, mutually support each other and relieve. their l axes and bearings from the pressure of the water, revolving in consequence as freely in the Water aswout of it. lHaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire toY secure byLetters Patent, is-
1. The cylindrical valves D, revolving against each other, and having apertures G G, substantially as and for the purposes described. 2. In combination with the above, I cla-im the curb A, provided with the apertures B and C, as and 'for tlie purpose specied. v k
The above specification of myiinvention4 signed by me this 22d day of April, 1867;
` OHARLESD. BLAKESLEE.
