UNITED STATES PATENT -FFICE.
JULIO GUIMARAES, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
OIL LAlVIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Lettrs' IPatent No. 684,227, dated October s, 1901-.' Application fi led April 16, 1961. Serial No. 56;147. (No man.)
T0 at whoiw it an concern.-
Be it known that LJULIO GUIMARAEsa citizen of Argentina, residing in Berlin, in the Kingdom of'Prussia and Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Oil-Lamps,of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in oil-lamps; and the object of the invention is to provide a lamp of this kind which will give a very strong and steady light without the use of a chimney or other protection for the flame; and the invention consists in the combination,
in a lamp, with an oil-reservoir, of an airsupply tube extending upwardly through the reservoir,a reservoir-tube within said air-supply tube and communicating with the reservoir, a wick-tube secured to the upper end of said reservoir-tube, a socket secured to the reservoir at the upper end of the air-supply tube, a plate on said socket extending outwardly beyond the same and inwardly to the wick-tube, an inner cap supported on said plate and having its lower edge opposite the socket, and an outer cap supported on said plate over the inner cap, said plate being provided with perforations within the inner cap and between the inner and outer caps and said socket being provided with perforations communicating with the space below the inner portion of said plate.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical central section through a lamp em bodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of the lamp shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a section on line A B, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, a, indicates the reservoir of the lamp, which is provided with a central air-supply tube b, extending upwardly through the same. \Vithin the tube 6 is arranged a reservoir-tube c, which is closed at the bottom and connected with the reservoir by connecting-walls (Z, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The tubes 1) c are perforated between the walls (I, so as to allow the liquid fuel to pass from the reservoir into the reservoir-tube c. A flat burner-tubefis secured on the upper end of the tube a and contains a flat wick g, which can be raised or lowered by turning the spindle 71-. Below the upper edge of the burner is arranged a dished plate 11, which extends inwardly into contact with the burner-tubef, and which is supported by a downwardly-extending socket 7c, soldered or otherwise secured thereto, and which fits over the upwardly-projecting edge Z of the reservoir a. On the plate t' rests an inner burnercap p,the lower diameter of which corresponds to the diameter of the cylindrical socket is and is arranged opposite the same, and over said cap is arranged another slotted cap of larger diameter, which is also supported on the plate t'.
The foot n of the lamp is provided with openings 0,through which atmospheric air en ters and passes in upward direction through the channel between the tubes 1) and c. The plate is perforated Within the cap 19 and also between the caps p and r, and the socket is is provided with openings communicating with the space below the plate t at its inner portion opposite the cap 10. Through these openings m of the plate and socket air enters and Iningles with the air supplied from below through the foot n, passing thence through.
the plate '5 for supplying air to the flame within the inner cap, while the air entering through the outer perforations of the plate t' passes into the flame between the caps 17 and 1*. To the flame a considerable quantity of oxygen gas is thus supplied through the central airtube and the perforations, so that without the use of an incandescent mantle or a chimney or other protecting means for the flame a very intense and almost white flame is obtained.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In an oil-lamp, the combination, with an oilreservoir, of an air-supply tube extending upwardly through the same, a reservoir-tube within the air-supply tube and communicating with the reservoir, the channel between said tubes communicating through the foot of the lamp with the outside air, a Wick-tube secured to the upper end of said reservoirtube, a socket secured to the reservoir at the upper end of the air-supply tube, a plate on said socket extending outwardly beyondthe same and inwardly to the wick-tube, an inner cap supported on said plate and having its lower edge opposite said sockets, and an outer cap supported on said plate over the inner In testimony that I claiin the foregoing as cap, said plate being provided with perforamyinvention I have signed my name in pres tions within the inner cap and between the ence of two subscribing witnesses.
inner and outer caps, and said socket being JULIO GUIMARJSES. provided with perforations communicating Vitnesses:
with the space below the inner portion of said WOLDEMAR HAUPT,
plate, substantially as set forth. HENRY HASPER.
